Per epidemiologists they send off a certain number of positive tests to be tested for variant, according to her about 100% of tests are coming back as Delta.

After that I think they extrapolate to a wider number. This is done by region.

Now, can we stop having everyone say "how do they know?"

I know that tomorrow everyone will still say that we dont know. That is just how people are now.

They can’t.

I had a friend who got Covid and was down a couple of weeks. He got sick again and they said it was the D variant. He asked how they knew and they couldn’t explain the process or how they came to that determination. If you get it again or after being vaccinated they just label it the D variant. At least in his case.

The variants differ in their spike proteins. These are what the virus use to enter a cell and it is also the the protein the vaccines replicate in order for your body to develop antibodies against it.

Heard it was the variant in India. Without stigmatizing them they changed name to Delta

This man made flu with some extra juice to effect some people's lungs.

They genetically sequence the virus.

Just like they genetically sequence anything else.

Yes, but I think it takes them several days at least to get that analysis done, so it really wouldn't make any difference to an individual's treatment, because by the time they know which variant it is, you would either be recovered or dead.
Their local level tests aren't much worth a frick, for identifying anything from a cold to any variant of the flu. That's the way they want it, it's very convenient.
