he intends to lower fuel costs which should lower transportation costs and thus, the cost of goods.

Funny how some want a ridiculous minimum wage for Jack shite little work while they aren't even concerned about their fellow man being slaves.

How does raising taxes on the rich solve a government spending problem?
Posted on 8/29/24 at 1:45 pm to LSUFANMICK
Flat federal sales tax is the most fair way. Not sure why we have to have a complected system where people can find loop holes or just not even pay tax.

It’s an incentive to produce more goods in the USA to make domestic products more competitive. Which provides jobs and tax revenue here
At least that’s the way I see it.
And then once those goods are produced here, the competition keeps prices in check...theoretically.

*After the initial increase is felt. You're creating a new baseline for the competition.

Raising the cost of foreign goods helps bring back manufacturing here. Which drives up job growth which causes companies to raise wages to attract employees which means you have more money to spend so additional couple bucks caused by tariffs is a wash because you are earning more money

We need to do something to stimulate more domestic production of just about everything, especially semiconductors, vehicles and appliances.
And put me down as a supporter of a national consumption tax to replace income tax.

So Apple is going to shut down their Asian plants and just move everything to the US? Cmon man.
Imagine what an iPhone would cost in that scenario.

Trump is not good with ideas that actually work to reduce costs or anything buisness related to improve that venture.
Only at getting others to give him money.
Then he takes it and runs and then asks for more
And so many want him to run our country, smh.

Busting China will benefit Vietnam and Mexico, not the USA

Best case is they move to Mexico. Apple is not going to pay someone with a GED $50/hr plus pension and health benefits for life to snap together iPhones.

Here's the problem with doing the tariffs thing with China. Currency manipulation almost on demand. That blunts the intent of the tariffs overall.
Besides, while some have their panties in a wad over China, Mexico has moved in as our largest trading partner. Lots of US manufacturing is now done in Northern Mexico

Tariffs competitively level the wage scale ..
Chine makes goods with slave labor, we don’t. A tariff is placed on goods that would make it cost as much or more than if it were made with US equivalent wages.
That’s what it’s about..the results are more industries producing things in US, which creates a good economy, which reduces inflation…

Wasn't this exact same question here last week?

Raising tariffs over a few decades would bring more manufacturing jobs back to the US. It needs to be a slow increase not a huge increase all at once. A large increase of tariffs that fast would probably hurt the stock market and it could effect the value of the dollar.
I generally agree with this. People are short sighted about the need for increased tariffs.
To bring about an increase in American manufacturing, first the rules must be changed to favor America (the whole America first idea).
Presently, the multinational corporations who put profits over people, are against this because they can get products made cheaper overseas.
Why? Because paying children pennies a day allows for much higher profits than paying an American citizen to do the same work.
Therefore, the rules have to be changed to favor Americans. Raising the price on foreign goods, thus allowing Americans to start new businesses and be competitive.
Sure, there might be a lil pain in the beginning...but it's the only way back to where we need to be.

They bring China to the table to negotiate is how they bring down cost. Either do as we wish or suffer! They will bow down because they need us.

We are losing our ability to manufacture anything. We are losing in robotics and the science of manufacturing due to our overly financialized economy.
We are basically becoming a third world country.
