Well, since you don't quote what you're responding to, it is hard to tell.

But to that point, my response was to yours saying that I don't have the right to defend myself against the government. So, in responding to me, you are still responding to your original point that I didn't have that right. See now? Maybe you should read a little slower.

However, since we now agree that I have the right to defend myself (the first part of the 2nd amendment), we get to your point about banning the AR-15. I believe the second part of the 2nd amendment addresses that.

This board is 95% bullshite. Every once in a while there is decent discourse.

This board is full of left and right stereotypes. I don't like them very much.

Why? This place is like any other political board.

It may be just above facebook.

It's an interesting mix.

Not really. DU for one is nothing like this place. Other forums typically have a much more defined grouping as well. This place is much more diverse than a lot of others.

There are things that we know work, and that a supermajority of the country supports. But we have a small minority that fetishizes firearms and prevents any progress from being made, so Americans keep dying

Yet you fail to mention the one thing that will actually stop it. your examples above would have little effect.

These mass shootings are committed by crazy people. If someone is mentally ill they should be placed in a secure facility. That is the only way you can keep them from doing bad things. This last shooter had the police called to his home over 30 times. Then FBI dropped the ball and did not follow up on a tip. The FBI is much more to blame for this shooting than anyone other than the shooter himself.

However the real problem with gun deaths (murders not suicide) are committed by people with prior criminal history. How about we have much longer prison terms for violent crimes. Assault someone and go to jail for 20 years without parole. Keep these violent people out of society. Yes it would be expensive but how much is it costing society to allow that individual to be free, free to rob, rape, assault, murder etc. To use a phrase you liberals love... "if it would save just one..."

But I would think that you would find longer prison terms reprehensible. You probably favor shorter sentences, which is the problem.

No dumbass You can make all guns illegal and they will still keep killing people.

Drugs=illegal
Murder=illegal
assault=illegal
robbery=illegal

Making something illegal does not stop it. The people who break these laws dont give a shite what kind of laws you pass.

But it you lock them up then you have a pretty good idea they wont hurt anyone on the outside...
