How can anyone rationally be mad at reciprocal tariffs?

I mean, we aren’t even hitting them with the full force that they’ve been jamming us with for who knows how long now.

I have learned in the past 12 or so hours that that list was compiled by blind and dumb squirrels. Or so the MT folks say. So maybe these squirrels eventually find an acorn.

You really think Laos and Cambodia has >95% tariffs on our goods? They are poor as frick.

The methodology behind the tariff calculations are bunk. Tariffs are best used sparingly and with purpose; this is Smoot-Hawley on steroids.

The “tariffs” side of the chart is not what other companies charge us. It’s actually basically the trade imbalance with that country, and only counts goods, not services.
Then we took half of that and charged them.
I’m not upset with well calculated reciprocal tariffs. I am disappointed with “just take the trade imbalance and we’ll tax them at half of that” which is an objectively bad way to do any of it.

The ones who complain aren't rational. They're the same ones who stage protests because the government won't pay for prison inmates to have sex changes. You can't talk sense to them. Just ignore them. They're terminal fools.

I agree. You can’t please 100% of the people all the time. Do what you think is right and move on. Someone is always gonna bitch. The needs of the many sometimes outweigh the needs of the few.

Because people believe the status quo is permanently sustainable and don’t want to be inconvenienced

Trumps economic strategy explained very well.
His use of tariffs, tax incentives, and deregulation.

Maybe that’s a contributor to why they’re poor. Well that and they behave like mini China when it comes to the West, so yes, I do.
But let me ask you why it’s considered free trade for everyone to put tariffs on our goods and services, but not free trade when we do it back? It’s certainly not fair trade

Its because implementation will cause short term pain. Some people who have been used to the pain drugs weve been administering to the stock market for decades with QE, bailouts, stimulus packages, insanely low interest rates have developed zero tolerance for pain.

Because Trump Derangement Syndrome has no cure and is terminal.

So let's take one of the top items Laos imports from the US which is cars. Do you really think they are almost doubling the price of an American car and selling them to a populous that has an average income of $9,727?
The vast majority of the people of Laos can't afford American goods even if there were zero tariffs.

you are kidding right?
Elon could find 1 trillion dollars, and send it all back to the taxpayers in a nice little rebate...and they would bitch and scream about it as loud as they could (while still spending their rebates).

It is amazing to watch honestly. The more positive he does, the worse they get. Look at Roger for example. He is losing his mind over Trump. He doesn't even realize how he looks on here.

I don’t pretend to know which items are targeted, but wouldn’t Laos primarily be importing Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwaneses automobiles rather than US cars?

Reciprocal tariffs? You’re right, no one should be mad. But that chart is garbage. This is not reciprocal tariffs. Probably an opening position by Trump intended to lead to negotiations to arrive at a fairer amount. Still this is sloppy as frick.
