How are you dealing with hysterical, panicked friends and family?

I’m at the point of shutting off communication with some. A friend of mine who works in the healthcare industry has been driving me crazy for a week. It’s now reached the point where she’s pissed at me because she’s pissed at the govt. Has no clue as to why I’m going crazy being at home pretty much out of work while she works her normal schedule and still gets paid... I tried to explain supply chain issues and most of the shite we need being produced in China but just gave up. She doesn’t get it and thinks moving an entire factory can be done in a few days. Justified it by saying we didn’t have this problem in WW2 while not understanding that we had a large industrial base here. That not withstanding, it still took us 2 solid years of preparation before we launched the d day invasion.

Ignoring them.
I get a daily reminder from one that she is the primary caretaker for her 89-year-old grandfather and we should all stay home for his sake.

Ignoring them, or being a smartass.

Luckily my family is not the panicking type. We have sensible discussions and are prone to us humor in difficult times rather than talk of gloom.

About to start looking for a furnished apartment for a month because my wife is fricking insane.

I just don't return their panicky text messages.

I just try to be calming and reassuring with facts and my usual, solid analysis.
Most aren't having it. This panic is completely unnecessary, unfortunately, and simultaneously all too predictable.

I have vowels at the end of my last name and the stereotypical temper to go with it. I get left alone so no issues with them.

Women are not very smart.

I’m going to PM my lawnmower with my son today. Drink as many beers as I can and just enjoy some time with my family. Trump is going to take care of us.

I’m thinking liquor might be the only way I survive the weekend.

My wife and I have told our relatives and friends, unless your infected, don't bother us. Crybabying about something so random is stupid. We talk to each other about supplies, but other than that, don't bother.

My In-Laws
Them: “It’s here. We got a case in (town).”
Me: “What’s it?”
Them: “The Virus.”
Me: “Oh like the flu?”
Them: “No, people are dying from it.”
Me: “Oh like the flu? Calm the frick down.”
Then they Usually cock their heads in confusion and the discussion ends.
