House Speaker Kevin McCarthy officially ends proxy voting

"No more proxy voting," House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announced Thursday. "Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count."
Proxy voting was established by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in May 2020 to allow Congress to operate under COVID-19 pandemic protocols. Instead of showing up for votes, a member of Congress could submit a letter to have a colleague announce their position on bills and amendments and even cast votes in their name.

and to McCarthy's credit, he's keeping every promise so far.
McCarthy is still probably a GOPe slimeball that is only allowed so much wiggle room by the intelligence agencies that really run the country...
But he can still try to move as far right or towards freedom within that box as he can.
I'm hoping he keeps his word and ends up being a decent SotH.

Maybe McCarthy is just another squishy politician who caves into the side that puts the most pressure on him. He has few if any base ethics.

I agree with this. At least he caved in the correct direction.
Credit where it is due. He kept the promise he made to get elected.
It’s on him to keep it up and it’s on Gaetz, et al to keep their feet on the gas. That vote to remove McCarthy looms large. There’s only one way for him to avoid it.

So in theory, our conservative elected representatives could’ve collectively gone and camped out at the border to highlight Biden’s unwillingness to enforce the law of the land and still been able to cast their votes on a daily basis?

This is where I have to disagree. Congress needs to spend MORE time in their districts than less. They should work and live among their constituents.
Aside from fundraising, I cannot imagine the work of a congressman being so "overwhelming" that the country's fortune would disappear if they spent less time in Washington DC.
