That's what the constitution says anyway

I don’t think you can offer him enough at this point to sell out one of the reddest states in the country to the fed govt.

Permanent majorities have been their goal since they lost control of Congress for the first time in over 60 years in 1994.

Just remember as the talking points go out that the minority is holding the country hostage and threatening democracy, what they are attempting requires an amendment to the Constitution. That requires something like 3/4 of the states and 2/3 of the Congress to ratify. They are the ones threatening the Constitution and Democracy by stealing the rights of the states.

I don’t think there is a chance in hell that the Court rules it unconstitutional. The constitution pretty much gives control to the Congress. They have allowed states to run things, but they do have the power to take that back. The courts will not save us if this thing passes.

If I were a governor, I'd tell the feds to frick themselves and instruct my state police to arrest ANYONE trying to enforce this bullshite law - including any fricking federal judge

It's been dead. All of this is just a formality. You won't get all democrats+10 Republicans. Even Mitt Romney is extremely against this and the only other path is removing the filibuster which is also very dead. It's over for the dems.

Sinema just killed it stating that she will not vote for killing the filibuster.

Kyrsten Simena made it clear she will not support a call from her party leaders to kill the filibuster in order to pass voting rights legislation
Her 19 minute speech essentially killed Dem efforts to pass voting legislation
The House passed a voting rights bill on Thursday and sent it to the Senate

The Constitution does NOT give Congress the authority to controls elections. The Constitution grants that power to the states to decide.

My question has been this since jump street:
The Constitution guarantees states govern their own voting rights, so if Dumbshitee Shumur somehow got this through would the Constitution not come into play and override? Or Feds block this and it go to the USSC?
You smart folks help me with this.

I think the plan is that they would throw this out and the Supreme Court would stall until after the election and then they'd have another fully rigged election. That or it really is just about helping Schumer get through the primary with AOC on his heels.

There would be immediate suits from half of the states to injoin or block the new bill. Similar to the OSHA mandates, there would probably be one consolidated appeal and then on to SCOTUS from there.
Since it would not be effective for the midterms even if they pass it, the Court would probably hear and decide the case in 2023.

What are they are trying to do is a horrible idea and will be the death knell of the country but it's not necessarily unconstitutional. Article I Section 4 of the Constitution explicitly gives Congress the authority to alter any state law overseeing the time, place, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives - other than the place for choosing Senators.

So they are specifically targeting reps and senators only? Because this is being portrayed as the entire federal election process.

I read something today that said Schumer can bring it several times fail and change the rules without a vote. It sounds like they will get it rammed through despite Manchin and Sinema.
Do they know that would ignite extremists? Do they care?

I would love to see the election of U S Senators return to the individual State House of Representatives.
It completely removes the political animal from the equation.

This does not give Congress the power to override the States on how Electors are chosen--only for Congress. Pretty sure that the Voting Act Dems want to pass deals with POTUS elections as well.
