Just saw a segment on Japanese TV. They visited with the elementary school kids who were sent home because of the virus with instructions to the parents on how to tutor them.
The kids looked to be 3rd or 4th grade. Typical response:
"It's terrible, so boring. My mother makes me study all day. I don't get to play. I can't wait to get back to school."

I wonder if American kids would be saying the same thing.

This was the attitude of my 12 year old yesterday when I had him doing schoolwork for 4 hours.

When Japanese home schooled kids catch themselves getting out of line, they are expected to give themselves a good paddling.

Brutal.

Lived next to a Japanese family when I was a kid. Those parents were brutal. On top of normal schooling, the kids were home schooled several hours every day.

My kids are saying the same thing. My wife has found some website that mimics the school lesson plans for each grade (5th and 9th) and she's making them do online work. When they aren't doing online work for school, they have household chores, and reading time.

At least they aren't put to work like in school.

In Japan kids have to serve other kids their lunch and it's in the classroom, there's no Cafeteria.

And this was before the Coronavirus.

No worries.
Seattle has said since a few children might not have home access to the internet, there will be no home schooling for anyone.

Problem solved

My Buddy us a coo and has said they have had at least 20 calls a day from loser parents that can't control their elementary school kid. He said some as young as 7 and 8

They are already saying that.

My SO has two grandchildren. My SO's daughter happens to have a degree in secondary education.

The granddaughter is 12 years old. She called yesterday. Exact words.

"Grandma, this is terrible. I can't wait for school to start again."

The SO's daughter, while an excellent mother, is also a control freak. I could not imagine being in a classroom setting with that woman.

So, I can assure you there are two children in Louisville, Kentucky who are hating the homeschool idea.

It's probably because Japan is so diverse. You know, diversity makes us all better.
