I already know where I stand given the layout of our house and our family. What works for you and your family?
I'll give my answer after we get some discussion going.

AR15. Best home defense weapon. Lower penetration through walls, highest capacity, easiest to shoot accurately, lowest recoil.
My gun is as follows
Noveske Infidel Gen III complete rifle
Aimpoint Compm5 in a scalarworks mount
Geissele SD-E trigger
Elzetta Charlie light with noveske light mount
Magpul ms4 sling
Arsenal Democracy 45 degree safety
Arsenal democracy ambi-mag release
Ammo is barnes 55 grain tsx.

Pump action shotgun. The weapon that has the ability to scare off an intruder before he even sees it.

Stupid. You give away your position doing this. Every gun for home defense should be loaded and ready to go. Only thing you should have to do is push on the safety and fire (for a shotgun or rifle, handguns may have no external safety)

Part 1, I agree.
Part 2, not so much.

Benelli M4 with an extended mag tube.
But a Mossberg 500 with an extended mag tube would work almost as well ... or a Remington 870 or an Ithaca M37 with an extended mag tube. If you choose a pump you'd need to be proficient, short stroking is a no no.
Next would be an M4 variant.
Next would be a good pistol ... but use it to fight your way to your long gun.

At home? I have a short barrel 12ga, an AR in 5.56, and a .45 in a piece of concealment furniture. There are a few pistols of varying calibers secured in other places around the house. The rest are in the safe.

Scoped Hi Pernt .45 son. Cappin you before you even get inside.

My first line of defense is my dog. If he's not enough, then my alarm system is a great deterrent. If they are still intent on coming in then it's going to be a .45.

Semi auto shotgun(s)
AR 15(s)
Glock 45
Sig 9mm
S&W 38 Special
My arsenal had it not been lost on a pontoon boat collision in the middle of the Atlantic.
Shotgun is my first home defense for intruder trying to break in. AR is for crap hits fan scenario and we have to post up in Windows against a mob of people trying to overwhelm the suburbs.
