I hate to see something of such great historical interest lost, but to be honest, the Allies should have bombed the hell out of it and destroyed it eighty-one years ago.
On a side note, one of the fellows Dad worked with in Charleston, WV was one of the first US soldiers to enter Hitler's Eagle's Nest. We went to go have dinner with him and his family when I was twelve and Dad had told him I was a huge WWII history buff. He said he'd have something special for me at dinner.
When we sat down to eat, the silverware laid out where I was sitting had the German eagle on it and was engraved with the initials A.H. I picked up the fork and knife, but then just couldn't do it. I had to ask for different silverware to actually use. But it sure was cool to see what he had collected while he was there. He told us that each one of his group that was there took one place setting from the silverware set and this was his now.

We should not celebrate the destruction of history.

Bill Gates will build his evil lair there now.

Youre lying. You were 12. Stop acting like you gave half a damn about Hitlers silverware

Damn shame . Hopefully they find the perpetrators and hang them.

I hope they can identify the Democrats that did this.

I think it might have been the look I got from Dad that made me second guess using it. It certainly wasn't out of any feeling of horror that it had once belonged to Hitler.
