Usually off-off-year elections like this favor Republicans. Terry Mac only won by 2.5% in 2013.

Because the democrats need something to rally around, though being realistic, this isn't it at all.

I'm just stunned that the exit polls had Trump at 43% approval and 60/20 monument gap and yet Northam is going to win by 8% or so. Those numbers are why I hung in there with Gillespie until it was way too late. Those are winnable numbers - it's Gillespie who sucked.

I think Northam is a better candidate in VA than Hillary was so that's ~ 2%

Trump was actually a better candidate in VA than Gillespie was so that's ~2%

I remember the same shite is some year of the Reagan admin where the networks gushed about the dems winning the VA and NJ governorships and it didn't mean much in the overall scheme of things then either.

Because Cuccinelli almost won in Virginia with absolutely no backing. Virginia's not gone. A Trump-y candidate isn't going to win it, though, and Gillespie went Trump-y.

They're predicting for Northam to win it even by a larger margin and Democrats historically don't show up in off year elections. Id say it's a pretty big deal.

If Hilary won Virginia by 6 points and this is gonna be a 51/48 type win, how is that a victory for Democrats?

Actually Gillespie going all Trump-y enabled him to close the gap like a hell and gave him the best shot a boring milk toast guy like him could ever have. Sovereignty, eliminating crime, a strong economy is what wins over voters.

He needs to get out of politics though as he just doesn't have it in him to inspire people to vote for him even though he may be a good guy.

Do they favor Republicans? Or just the party without a sitting President?

its not. VA is the most establishmenty of all states. Hell, most voters in the state are the actual establishment.

I am glad how a year later it has come out that Hillary rigged the election.

Meh McCain lost to obama by 230k votes. Trump lost Hillary by the same margin.

Virginia is just a blue state

Why is it a big deal? Because Trumpsuckers had convinced themselves that Lord Sweet Potato was going to single handedly deliver the state and the dem party was all but ash and coal.

Instead they got gaped.
