You believed this enough to copy and paste it. That is irrefutable proof that youre a fricking idiot.

What kind of special stupid do you have to be to even think this remotely makes sense?? By this logic, we should be able to buy a Corolla for 1000 bux if it was made in China. God damn retarded liberals

It is all fear porn about iphone prices and tariffs.

I believe the iPhone CPUs made in the US are at least 1 generation behind what TMSC makes in their Taiwan assemblies.

That's not a bad thing...Apple does trickle-down techonomics with their SOC designs fabbed by TMSC...so there are plenty of phones, tablets, voice assistants, tv streaming boxes, etc that can use them.

However, their top end phone, laptop, and desktop computer SOCs are coming from Taiwan alone right now.

This can change and suspect it will. Especially with the lower volume chips on the top end of their desktop/laptop computer SOCs. For example, I believe the low volume Mac Pro tower is already assembled in the United States. If it is going to be expensive and low volume, that is a good candidate for doing it here since those are products not really trying to hit a price point.

None of you cared about this until the tariffs, now it’s just a talking point.

I can't speak for everybody else but I've had a problem with this Paradigm for quite some time. I'm not saying the current Solutions are solutions but that doesn't mean it hasn't been a problem. And it's always been kind of weird how okay we are with it. America has this weird thing where we hate on the rich even though we are the rich. Even our middle class are the rich.

Look, we get it. We can't produce cheap shite here without child labor. You can start a zillion threads all day with different products doing just this.

I don't recall the expectation being we are going to bring Apple's manufactoring to the US lololol

You don't have to have an iPhone. Plenty of options under $500

Once the facility is built, changing production lines is a relatively simple process. There is nothing special about Taiwan that can't be done in the USA facility.

EDIT: Also the one link said the iPhone 14 pro CPU is being made at the arizona facility. So it is indeed phone chips being produced there.

You going to thank Biden for that CHIPS subsidy of $52 billion dollars for all of this?

We are too much of a disposable culture. We always feel like we have to have the latest and greatest. That’s not a very sustainable economy. Spending all your disposable income is great short term for the stock market, but getting back to our grandparents mindset of getting all the value out of products and not feeling the need to keep up with Jonses is better for everyone. Don’t feel the need to buy every new and shiny product.

Apple is building a new factory in Houston, Texas, as part of a $500 billion commitment to US manufacturing.
The 250,000 sq ft (23,225 sqm) facility will produce AI servers and employ thousands of people, according to CEO Tim Cook.
The factory is set to open in 2026 and will mark a shift from Apple's current practice of manufacturing servers abroad.
Additionally, Apple plans to double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, create a training academy in Detroit, and increase domestic R&D investments in fields like artificial intelligence and silicon engineering.
Apple also announced plans to invest in a new TSMC plant in Phoenix, Arizona, as part of the same $500 billion investment in the United States over the next four years.

So then you do agree that, long term, if this is about bringing manufacturing back home, this is going to increase the cause of living many times over. And you’re okay with this because…Trump?

I expect this from some, but you’ve been here long enough. You’re intellectually better than marginalizing discourse as a meltdown.

the cost of manufacturing an iPhone in the U.S. could be $30 to $40 higher than in Asia, due to higher expenses associated with shipping components from various countries to the U.S.

This would likely increase the price of iPhones to around $3,500, making them prohibitively expensive for most consumers.

An analyst quoted by CNBC said the tariffs would increase the prices of regular and Pro iPhones by $120 and Pro Max models by $350. That sounds realistic. Any speculation about how much it would cost to make them in the US is just that, speculation, and this piece sounds kind of hysterical.

I’m not going to get into the “Apple roolz or Apple droolz” crap because that’s just the tribalism of this forum raising its head. I’ve had both Androids and iPhones and I prefer iPhones. Yes they’re overpriced, but they just work, plus they suit my needs with their cameras, etc., because actual phone calls are probably the least thing I use my phone for.

I just upgraded my phone and when I do, it comes out of my pocket, I don’t finance them through or participate in the addictive as crack “upgrade your phone by signing a new contract” con from cellphone providers. If iPhones get too expensive for me to afford down the road, we’ll cross the bridge of making that call when we get there, which is how it’s supposed to work.

But you can’t tell me that Apple doesn’t have a plan for this in place already that probably won’t be as dire in the real world as this piece speculates.
