So if there's also an ammo shortage, and I run out and buy ammo when it's available to protect my family, I'm guessing this board is going to guilt me if the LE professionals are running low, too. "The police will save more lives with those bullets than you will."
Both the police and yourself can shoot criminals in the act to stop crime. But only doctors and nurses can treat your loved ones if they fall critically ill.
Stop being a jackass.

Maybe take that up with the Obama administration for not resupplying the inventory they depleted or even your administration for not being able to do what a regular citizen was able to do. It is not Joe Citizen’s problem that our medical system cannot provide enough supplies to last them through the first few weeks of a crisis.
This bashing someone for being proactive to protect his own family is ridiculous, even though the masks may be of no use to them. It was only 4 masks.

wouldn't it be in the insurer's interest, as well my own, to help me source some face masks before I went shopping?"
Your story is a lie.
You are full of shite.
1.They say that a face mask is for those who are sick so They don't spread the virus.
2. The stimulus is paying for all COVID related bills. The insurance can recover their funds from the stimulus.
3. Hospitals need masks. If a local supply company had them, they would be giving them to the hospitals, not you so you can go buy pop tarts.
4. Insurance companies don't prescribe medical supplies, doctors do.
What are your motives? Are you trying to get everyone to call their insurance company to request masks? Then when they get told no, they can go online and tell everyone how the Orange Man is bad and we're all gonna die?
Shame on you!

Yeah, and what happens when every person calls their insurance to get masks because this person claims they got them?
This story is a lie.

Maybe. We have a very isolated lake house we can bug out to if needed.
Have you noticed recently how few are infected/deceased in Japan, a very small country of 131 million people? There are very few cases of the Chinese virus there. Why? The population there regularly wears the surgical masks, so the correlation is obvious. Their rate of infection is only 11 cases per million people while in the U.S. it's 2900% higher.
But I shouldn't get a mask.
So if there's also an ammo shortage, and I run out and buy ammo when it's available to protect my family, I'm guessing this board is going to guilt me if the LE professionals are running low, too. "The police will save more lives with those bullets than you will."
The mask really isn't going to help, and you don't need the mask at your lake house. Basically, if you are relying on the mask, well, good luck.
As far the ammo, just had another 1000 rounds should up at the door the other day. I'm not trying to guilt you about anything, just saying that mask business isn't going to really help.

So only 4 come in a box? COVID can live on cardboard for 24 hours so...
This is directed at OP, not you.

Spanish flu
Are you guys joking?
As the pandemic reached epic proportions in the fall of 1918, it became commonly known as the “Spanish Flu” or the “Spanish Lady” in the United States and Europe. Many assumed this was because the sickness had originated on the Iberian Peninsula.

This guy makes a good case for everybody to wear a mask.

sounds credible to me. Watch the whole video if

I don't believe this number but let's just say it's accurate.
Do you know why the US has more positive tests for COVID? Because we are testing more people than any other country on the planet!
If Japan tested more people, their numbers would go up!
They probably wear masks to hide their faces from all of the surveillance cameras they have there and in China.
The Chinese wear masks all the time too. How'd that work out for them??

Those things are like gold to front line healthcare workers right now and you’re just sitting on 4 of them while being able to social distance? Not cool. Those could save lives in the ICU and ER right now while the box collects dust at your safe home. If you guys want to stare reality in the face walk through an ICU or ER rt now. Everyday people basically fighting a war against an invisible enemy. I’ve been doing it all week and it’s real.

BTW
Japan just reported a whole bunch of cases today. Adjust your percentages.
LINK
Coronavirus infections surged Saturday to a single-day record of over 60 in the capital, while 56 people at a welfare facility in adjacent Chiba Prefecture also tested positive, government officials said.
Tokyo had logged more than 40 infections per day in the past three days, but Saturday’s batch took the total past 350, the highest of all 47 prefectures.

So masks ARE available.
The fellow bought a couple, and you're blaming him?
Meanwhile, you are working in a facility that likely pays a Procurement V.P. between 2 and 20X what you are paid.
Yet some little individual guy just found a source for materials your facility Administration did not. WTF is your procurement guy getting paid for?
Worse yet, he works for a LeadAdmin/President who is paid even more. In times like these when their incompetence is literally putting lives at risk, one of which may be yours, you and your colleagues need to be asking WTF they are doing.
Think about that.
The next time you question effectiveness of your PPE as you pop open a Mac#3 to tube a CV-ARDS pt, think about those administrators who ARE responsible for your situation. Think about those Admins who put you at physical risk because they did not do their jobs. Think about them sitting in their offices drinking coffee, and sharing what great jobs they're doing in nicely assembled powerpoint presentations.

Which makes my heart swell at the American Spirit. I hope If anything is learned from this catastrophe.... is that we realize that we cannot be beholden to other nations, especially those nasty frickers in the East.
And I will say, that I trust Donald Trump, more than anyone else by far, to save this country from this. Let's just hope he can accomplish what needs to be done.
I don't know that I could possibly agree more
with Toddy
here is a truth bomb from me --
I am voting for Trump no matter what, but I would be FAR more comfortable and less worried about our country if the Dems would go ahead and shite can Biden for Cuomo, Newsome or even Hillary. I'd be nervous if Joe was in charge, he ain't all there
we are living in interesting times
