It won’t work. Now we all know the federal government cannot be trusted one iota. The need for armed citizens is increasingly evident as each day passes. Our forefathers knew damn well what they were doing.

Villanizing the NRA has been a continual loser for the DNC. The Russian collusion narrative has been a loser for the DNC.
So from their perspective, it just makes sense to merge the two.

That would be dumb.
They have tried to use dead children and that has failed, I doubt people are going to be as emotionally invested in "the Russians" as dead children.

I think the going theory at the moment is that the NRA links to Russians are what has most mainstream Rs in Congress so concerned. The NRA spends millions in support of GOP candidates and I think some of them are worried that if the NRA/Russian connection is true, how much Russian money was backing me in my last election?
That’s why you see statements against trump doing stuff but little to no action. It’s simple self-preservation af this point.
