The last big rock song that I can think of was Radioactive by Imagine Dragons... and that came out in 2012.

It has more to do with 90% of all terrestrial radio stations being owned by 2 companies. About 12 total companies control 90% of all media, record labels, ISP's, television, radio, and mobile phone access

I'm in my forties. I think op's point was no great rock band has formed during the last 20. That's probably not true but I don't listen to music nearly as much as I once did.

This generation has officially become exponentially worse than the one that had a four year flirtation with disco.

It was Fall Out Boy with the song "Centuries" and "Light 'em Up". The other "rock" bands that were on pop radio recently were Maroon 5 and Panic at the Disco!.
