I've gotten where it has become somewhat of a chore to me, from my perspective.

All the women that are close to me, in my life, have great expectations that are difficult to meet.

Very elderly mother, wife, three daughters, two awesome forty-something nieces and their girls, several granddaughters, a bitch of a sister .... wimen tend to make Christmas too much of a thing and it causes me issues when it all coagulates at my normally peaceful home.

I hide out in the mancave.

Anyways, here's what most fail to realize. It's worth equipping yourselves with this timely and accurate information.

There are many more female only spaces than male only spaces.

I think it is way more about what gift people get/want and not about spending time with family.

Somewhere back in the late 70s early 80s when Halloween merged into the holiday season, from October to after the new year, consumerism reigns.

I really detest the use of “spaces” on this context.

I know you didn’t start the trend, but it grates me.

I disagree, anyway. What women only spaces exist other than convents and all-girl schools?

Men are hijacking what it means to be a woman with the trans bs. Women can’t have anything for themselves except for the hard stuff like periods and childbirth.

100%

I dont celebrate a gaudy holiday. We just relax. Dont buy the wife anything, she does fine ordering for herself.

We buy the grandkids stuff, send it and call it a day.

your question reminds me of the plot of a Charlie Brown Christmas

We need a reminder from Linus on the true meaning of Christmas!

You're about 100 years too late for this argument.

Goes back to social media appearances
Have to have matching family pj pics
A family tradition ornament exchange turns into who brings the fanciest charcuterie board
No one can just enjoy time spent with each other anymore

Probably so. I know Charlie Brown was complaining about the commercialization of Christmas in the 60s and I'm sure that complaint wasn't new then

Hell yeah, it has. And it's been this way since before any of us were born.

I used to work as a superintendent for a GC that built malls. Trust me - the owner of those malls had the entire building designed with Christmas in mind. The soffits/bulkheads for the ceilings separating the main walkway from the cul-de-sac areas leading to various stores in the building had to be at least 19'-0" A.F.F. to ensure that all the Christmas trees and decorations could be placed without having to break them down. He was adamant about it.

Now, look at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target, Lowe's, and all the other big name stores. They start putting out Christmas decorations before Hallowe'en has even arrived. (In some cases, I've seen Christmas paraphernalia on display for sale near Labor Day!)

All the over-the-top commercialism that starts earlier, and earlier each year has pretty much turned me off Christmas. The whole holiday has turned into a money-grubbing fest that lasts at least a month longer than it should.

It felt a lot different when I was a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s. It no longer has that feel for me. The commercialism is far too crass these days.
