Individual freedoms and rights are generally considered "liberal" or "left" thinking.

I agree with the liberal part, classic liberal that is, but Leftism as we know it today bears very little resemblance to our national history.

The post I was responding to you said the US was historically a left leaning country which I still say is very imnacurate without some clarification of what you mean by "left", because you can't really be referring to the common definition of "left" as it is used today.

The American left is moving toward authoritarianism
Civil rights are hardly "authoritarian". While they violate part of the ideology of individual rights, they protect the rights of some in a "civil" society. Probably wouldn't have been needed if outright discrimination didn't continue well into the 20th century.

The terms today are misused to the point of being useless. Capitalism vs Socialism vs full fledged Communism can be found in authoritarian and liberal governments alike. Really Communism is all by itself.

Probably more economic freedom than the USA.

How so? Living under Big Brother (who takes 60% of your income, if you make more than $50K) is more free than the US because how?

Did you know?
In Sweden, the Tax Agency can reject your choice of a name for your newborn child?

In Sweden, if you change addresses, you must inform the tax agency within one week?

In Sweden, you cannot be buried until your family provides a certificate from the tax agency to the funeral home?

In Sweden you have to get approval from the tax agency before you can get married.

Yes.
But that was not the question asked.

I get your point and your sarcasm Zack because I have seen your posting style on this board for a long time--but to those who don't, they also murdered 100+ Million people over the last 70 + years to get to the point of a peaceful dissolution of authoritative communism in 1990.

Passing laws forcing people to adhere to your version of "morality" is definitely authoritarian.

I can read your posts - there's no big secret that you're a Republican, even if you quietly tell yourself that you're not "that" kind of Republican.

Anyone who isn't authoritarian left is a "Republican" to you.

Yeah, your posts decrying "leftists" are very non-Republican of you.

You can think you're not a Republican all you want (ooh, are you an edgy libertarian?), but you're a Republican.

You don't have to be a Republican to dislike the authoritarian left.

You are the most naïve fricker on this board.

You do to think a post about "leftists" isn't a Republican point.

You must be the most deluded motherfricker here today. High bar, but you're clearing it!

What a simpleton.

You know what else is a Republican point? A strong military

So, everyone who believes in a strong military is a Republican in your world

In classical liberalism, not Progressivism.

There hasn't been a classical liberal in the Democratic Party in decades.
