You just hate to see it, am I right folks?!?!
I LIKE THIS QUOTE THE BEST!!
Wait you mean people are balking about coming back and paying a “surcharge” for simply living in a city whose mayor is hell bent on ravaging the PD and whom also hates the rich that pay the surcharge?!?!
Haha I am taking way too much pleasure in watching NYC unravel.

Cuomo said on Tuesday that he speaks to the city's wealthiest residents 'every day', begging them to come back
Many fled for the Hamptons, upstate New York or Connecticut when the pandemic hit
In May, at least 420,000 of the city's wealthiest residents had fled the city
Their exodus was cemented when riots and looting tore through the city in June
Now, there are calls for higher taxes on the super wealthy to offset the projected $30billion deficit New York is facing over the next two years

This is stupid shite several years back reaching the logical conclusion.
Paterson pushed through residency laws for NY state taxes in his mistake of a term that treated anyone who spent X number of days in NY state as a state resident for tax purposes.
It drove Rush Limbaugh and a bunch of other high earners out of the state and Paterson’s response amounted to “Bye, Felicia!”

Voting with your feet. It's all about freedom.

A good way to get more of them to leave.

Just a question I hope our smart liberals can answer....... how will you pay for all of the free stuff after you’ve run out of other people’s money?

Yes, but they also realize these idiots will move somewhere new, and still vote dem bc that's all they know to do. Basically they are following the path that the Muslims have used in Europe.
They move into new areas, get a foot hold, vote in the same scum they move away from, and then use their laws against them until they destroy the new area. I would say they are like a plague of locus, but that would be giving locus a bad name.

So what will their solution end up being? An even higher surcharge on those that remain.

No ROI so why should they come back?

Just wait until the real estate market crashes. So many speculators, flippers and International investors are going to GTFO. Those who are heavily leveraged will be destroyed as buyers dry up. Those who just thought they got lucky by buying and holding are going to get a quick lesson on supply and demand. The densest cities are a TERRIBLE risk moving forward. A city like LA can weather it. A city like NYC is so screwed.

Raising taxes even higher is the only thing they know.
I just can't believe how stubbornly people cling to their stupidity. Its inconceivable that Dems keep winning elections.

My guess is that they attempt to find a way to extort businesses in NYC to cover the deficit.
Which then causes ones with any ability to move to scale back their presence in the city.

Or they'll make some sort of law that retroactively says if you lived in New York in the past 18 months, then you must pay and enhanced surcharge as if you have lived there the entire time.

They can try it but it can be considered ex post facto and will end up in a major court case.
They may see money but it won’t be for a long time and they will take a massive beating in public over it.
