Say this culture war goes hot, we have a civil war, then end up writing a new constitution. What do you change to make the country more idiot-proof, corruption-proof, and sustainable?

Here are a list of my recommended constitutional changes, in addition to the old. Feel free to add your own, and let me know what you think.

The list:

Federal register sunset - all federal laws that are not amendments to the constitution will automatically expire after 10 years and must be re-approved. This will tell you if your reps. are actually voting in your interest.

Term limits of 12 years for congress.

Only net taxpayers can vote - voting is tied to your tax returns (this also solves most voter ID and fraud arguments). Only responsible citizens should get a say in who leads the country. A catalyst for the creation of the country was "no taxation without representation." It seems we've come full circle and the country is now going bankrupt at least partially because we have citizens who are not paying taxes getting representation. Voting needs to be restricted to people who make responsible enough decisions to not need government assistance in order to survive.

All tax filings of elected and appointed representatives, and any legal entities they are associated with (LLC's, charitable foundations, etc.), become public domain, including for years prior to election and after service. Conservatives get the Clinton foundation and progressives get Trump's returns. I would say transparency on both sides is fair, and we need to see financial info of our leaders to know they aren't taking massive bribes.

All classified information of all departments of government is automatically de-classified after 20 years unless approved to remain classified by both houses of congress. The extension of classification also sunsets every 10 years and must be re-approved.

The yearly federal budget cannot plan to run a deficit except in congressionally-declared wartime. Federally planned budget line item expense expectations must reflect actual expenses from previous years. (you can't say "we expect this to cost X even though we know last year it cost 3 times X and nothing is changing about the program")

State and Federal government employees may not unionize. This is ridiculous on its face. You can vote to directly choose the leadership of your "company." Address your grievances that way.

Term limits
Politicians on same healthcare systems as others.
Politicians should lose personal immunity for decisions (if they take same from police)
Politicians should have to live under same rules and programs they enforce on others.

This makes too much sense to implemented by our political class. Joe Biden is the poster child for term limits and look where we are with him. I would love to see the Clinton Crime Foundation's books....

Merit based immigration system... If you don't have this your new constitution will be torn up over the long run regardless.

Let's go take over New Zealand.

I'll build a hobbit hole for my home and be pretty damn content.

Pick an island for us. You and me and anyone else who wants to join. We'll all pool our money and buy it.

Kind of covered by the merit-based voting system.
