No. It has been run by Denmark and the EU and it is ate with the dumbass.

It has 4 times the oil that Alaska has. We cannot afford fair market value.

The going price for Alaska was something like four cents per acre. The inflation calculator I use only goes back to 1913 where $0.04 is equal to $1.05 today. Let's be generous and offer $2.00/acre and give them 48 hours to decide, but advise at that time the price will be zero.

As an aside, I recall reading once that if Canada were to break up (due to issues with Quebec autonomy demands) the Atlantic provinces might desire to join the United States. That would fit nicely with this.

We should have already bought it.

Look at the strategic location based on this view:

Before this whole thing blew up by the media, no one even considered the idea. So why now? It's not going to happen.

No one considered it before, so it must be bad? WTF if that?

It's fricking weird.

Let's consider alleviating some of our 22 trillion $ debt before we go offering cash we don't have to buy other countries' land.

Yes. LEt the EU know that this is the cost of them not funding their military obligations to NATO. We will acquire more of their possessions if they don't foot their fair share.

SCREW THE EU & NATO.

Why cannot we pick a tropical location to start a breakaway republic? That way we can topless beaches.

Greenland is enigmatic when it comes to automony and Dutch and EU control. It's not a traditional member of the EU as are the other EU members including Denmark itself. The Dutch have allowed referendums in Greenland which have resulted in more autonomy from Denmark as well as withdrawal from the predecessor of the EU, the EEC. However, Greenland remains a party to a few various EU treaties thus EU has some influence but not "normal" EU influence.

ETA...as for minerals, it's hard to envision Denmark giving that up. The Dutch have had a pretty significant oil and gas operation in the past, mainly offshore. But incidentally they've recently passed legislation that prohibits land operations of that sort. Im sure they're a "green" kind of people in general, thus the thought of the U.S. potentially poking holes all over Greenland is a repugnant thought.

Nope.

Greenland depends on a lot of welfare from Denmark as it is. We have enough welfare states. All out territories like Guam and US VI have huge welfare populations.

If Denmark wants to sell, sure. If not, it's not worth getting worked up over.

Davy, I’m confused. Where do the Dutch come into this. Do you mean the Danes?
