Out of all the NATO members, Germany was paying the least in NATO's dues despite being "pressured" for years to step up & pay what it's supposed to pay. But....what does the U.S. have to lose?

All Trump has to do is threten to remove US troops from Germany and they will cave. It would tank the German economy. Their defense budget would sky rocket. There is not one division in the German Armed Forces that is fully combat ready.

The United States is NATO. All the other NATO countries combined cannot match the armed forces of the United States.
This includes active troops, tactical aircraft, support aircraft, naval vessels, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, nuclear submarines, battle tanks, ect.
Again, The United States is NATO. NATO without the U.S. is just a bunch of wimpy whiners who will regret the day they have to stand up for themselves.

Ripe picking for the MSM. If Trump now repairs relations with Germany (assuming this is even legit in the first place), it will be because he has such adoration for Hitler that he couldn't lose the US German relationship.
