Any movie with GeneHackman in it is usually a pretty good movie.

One of my favorite actors.

They need to honor Duval. He is an EXCELLENT ACTOR.
Can play any role from Apocalypse Now to Days of Thunder to Colors to the Godfather. To me he's the best behind Pacino.

With Harrison Ford thrown in. Pretty incredible group in that scene.

The Conversation perfectly captures the cynicism and political paranoia of the Watergate era. Along with Chinatown, it was one the best films of that era.

Harrison Ford could act and Francis Ford Coppola obviously recognized this. One of my favorite scenes from Apocalypse Now indeed included Harrison Ford.

The following clip is perhaps the most unnerving in a film filled with many such unsettling scenes. IMO, the actor playing the CIA agent portrays the most menacing character in the entire film:

In Enemy of the State and The Conversation, Hackman basically plays the same role. In one scene in Enemy of the State, the Feds flash a decade old ID of Hackman, since he had dropped off the grid.

The ID pic they used was from his ID in The Conversation.

Another great actor from that generation. Tender Mercies is one of my favorite films.

As an aside, Micheal Caine is another one of the greats from that generation. Keeping with the political theme, The Fourth Protocol is an under appreciated political thriller from the Cold War era:

Played by Jerry Ziesmer, who was also Coppola's assistant director on the film.

never even heard of the conversation, looks good, may try and watch tonight

The Conversation had the misfortune to be released the same year as The Godfather Part II, and Hackman not even being nominated for Best Actor that year was a criminal omission by the Academy.

Robert Duvall

When he filmed The Apostle in South Louisiana, he rented a friend's home for filming.

LSS, she got to know him, and when they needed to cast a character locally, she recommended that I audition. I got the part!

Had the opportunity to actually get to visit with him several times, and he was nothing but class. I was a teen at the time, and had no idea what an icon he was. He was so down to earth, I never got the impression that he was an A-lister

All of those guys were great but Duval couldn’t hold Hackman’s jock.

I think Duvall was the best actor of my lifetime. He would even accept very small parts, like in Sling Blade, or The Road, because he loved / loves acting so much, and is memorable in every part. And he was responsible for one of the beast lines ever: “I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man”

Very cool story, bro!

Duvall is my all-time favorite actor, probably from him playing Gus on Lonesome Dove. That's the best movie character that's ever been imo...

In fairness, a liberal of his era would be considered a right wing extremist today.

There was an era, when Hackman was young that both democrats and republicans were both concerned about american success, at least as compared to today. The globalists and MIC hadn't quite taken over yet. Eisenhower gave the warning, but people didn't pay close enough attention.
