Adam Rippon's approach to Mike Pence is imbecilic. If the V.P. of the US offers to reach out, you don't respond like a 3rd grade drama queen. You meet the man. Engage him. See what he has to say. Say what you have to say, and perhaps influence his position, or heaven forbid, have him influence yours. Regardless, that is how well-adjusted adults act.

As for "conversion therapy", what's your beef?
Seriously. Lay it out there. If your concern is with Fundamentalist Preachers pretending to be behavioral psychologists and sexual police all wrapped in one package, then you and I share similar distain. But if your position is sexuality counseling can never work to walk any individual out of a gay lifestyle, or "convert them", that is absolutely false.

Clearly for those falling firmly into the "L" or "G" categories of LGBTQ, "conversion counseling" certainly won't magically render them heterosexual. Under those circumstances in appropriate clinical settings, a client's participation would often be discouraged from the outset. But even then, there can be healthy benefits. I've only known one fellow who claims to have tried "conversion". He was closeted in his twenties. Tried "conversion" with a psychologist in group sessions. It didn't work. But It apparently gave him assurance to approach his family, tell them "this is who he is," and according to him, his attempts with conversion made their acceptance easier.

So the concept of counseling and therapy itself is not unreasonable, given a sound approach.
I would assume LGBTQ's would agree? Right?
Otherwise what is the purpose of "B" or "Q" designations amongst the community?

If issues like clinical conversion counseling were cut-and-dry hoaxes, if nothing could be offered in terms of healthy lifestyle change or counseling, why would there ever be a "Q" category to begin with?

On the flip side, how for example, does a "G" address a "Q" in terms of lifestyle choice?
Do they not themselves often invite or encourage straight-to-bisexual-to-gay "conversion"?
It's silly to generalize, and everyone has their own personal experiences, but we can address well known examples.

Anne Heche was a "Q".
Ellen DeGeneres convinced her otherwise. DeGeneres seduced her, "converted" her, married her. Ellen seems like a good enough person. I'd hope she meant Heche no harm in acting as she did. But of course as it turns out, Heche was not innately lesbian. She suffered from childhood-based misandry.

Heche is a perfect example of someone who would have benefitted from sexuality counseling or clinical "conversion therapy". Instead she got tied into the same psychological confusion gay people might get trapped in if Fundamentalist Conversion was foisted on them.

I believe Rippon and Pence are both good, well-meaning people. I assume they are both bright and both well informed on the issue. They are undoubtedly both passionate in their individual beliefs. They could have a high-quality high-profile discussion if Rippon had the emotional maturity to do so. It is a shame he doesn't.

It’s pretty messed up. I remember when growing up how big a deal the Olympics were, I’ve seriously not watched 5 minutes of Olympic coverage. Heard we won gold in snowboarding or some shite.

This is why I don't watch the women's olympics. I don't care to see a bunch of political hacks figure skate
