The only remotely logical explanation I can think of at this point is that Sessions is actually working behind the scenes and Trump is aware of it.
It just doesn't make any sense that Trump hasn't fired Sessions already.

Sessions just needs to recuse himself from his employment in the DOJ. If he has a moral conundrum regarding all potential responsibilities as AG then it's time for him to step down completely. This guy has been an unmitigated disaster from day one.

Second, spying in and of itself isn't illegal, so arguing semantics is stupid.
What IS illegal is using false pretenses to start an investigation including sending spies into an organization.
