Gaming developer brags she won’t hire white people on the team to keep a ‘safe’ work environment
A so-called “non-binary” video game developer is under fire for bragging about only hiring/recruiting minorities for her development team.
Dani Lalonders is her name, and she works for Cliffhanger Games, a group “currently developing a game based on Marvel’s #BlackPanther.”
A video has emerged showing her bragging about violating America’s civil rights laws and not hiring/recruiting white game developers.
“I have a team of 21 right now for Validate,” she says in the video. “It’s a pretty big team. It’s a crazy, big team for indie games. But who is your team? Validate has a team of all people of color. We have no white people on our team. I did that because I wanted to create a safe environment, and I know the best way for an environment to be safe is to be around people who are just like me.”

My bet is either the game flops, is behind OR way over budget... could be a combination of all three...

I love when people beg me not to give them my money. It works every time. Not to mention, I'd probably rather get jerked-off by a jellyfish than play anything this idiot programmed.

I remember when I saw a group of black youths on the street while walking and I crossed to the other side so there would be no problems. And they called me racist for doing so.
Who knew that if hiring then was on the table it would have been alright.
Safety comes first.

Replying to @libsoftiktok @CliffhangerDevs and @Marvel
Since this company is located in Seattle, I assume @agowa will follow up as it appears to be a violation of the civil rights of white engineers. Also, we should report this as a hate crime on the new snitch line created for the Attorney General to prosecute.

If you want to see where the United States is headed look to what happened in Rhodesia and is now happening in South Africa. Its not going to go well for a lot of you.

TBH she is doing a public service by keeping good developers off a shite EA game.

The SJWs have completely bastardized the word “safe.” This militant admits it in this short clip. “Safe” now just means “no white people.” Like the study hall at ASU, or the blacks only graduations, or the blacks only dorms. Safety has absolutely nothing to do with it.

She made these comments and this racist policy while working as a lead developer at an indie studio a couple of years ago. This does not appear to be the policy of her current employer Cliffhanger or EA where she is working as associate developer for the games narrative. I tried to make this point on the OT and got downvoted but I still think its crap that a team of hundreds of folks that just want to make a good game will get dragged into this mess b'c of one shitty person. Hopefully they will get rid of her.

It will be late.
It will be over budget.
It will absolutely suck.

That's one way to look at it.
Another way is that if she made those comments a couple of years ago, her current employer did a poor job vetting the hire.
And the current company shouldn't have any legal liability if they haven't also violated civil rights law. It's the company she was working for who allowed her to break the law on their behalf that can be sued/fined/etc..

I wonder what the percentage of good women game developers there really is. Less than 0.5%?

Not sure about the percentages.
There are quality developers out there in gaming history, with Sierra being built on the work of Roberta Williams and them publishing a lot by Lori Cole as well.
Problem is that a bunch of women have whined about the “boys club” without producing works that appeal to anyone in a way that moves a significant number of units.
Those developers don’t tend to get put over a AAA game because any studio putting that many resources into a game can’t afford to frick around with having an untested developer running it.

So she doesn’t have a problem with a white person hiring only white people? It would be a really safe environment but in Seattle everyone is cray cray.

Hiring practices based on race is illegal. Upside down world.
