I looked it up - The Toledo Blade did not endorse anybody in 2016 but encouraged its readers to vote against Trump.

Now explain hoe the "very pro-Trump editor" allowed that.

They only merged the editorial sections.

The same family has owned both of them for almost 100 years, but putting the Blade guy in charge of editorial content at the PG was a pretty big deal. It was the culmination of a long shift in political attitudes in Western PA. You would be hard-pressed to find a blue precinct in Western PA outside the city limits of Pittsburgh and Erie anymore, and most of the PG readers don't live in those blue precincts.

It doesn’t matter it’s online now. To get more people they went conservative in 2018. They could have gone liberal or stayed down the middle, but conservatives are more passionate and stay loyal.

Not as many conservative outlets, so it was a good business plan
