With over 11,000 active satellites and the technology expertise that Elon’s companies have, it’s surprising that he isn’t already doing this, rural customers in particular would flock to it.
Though he will need to prove and lay out how both his service and phone are super secure, for it to be successful. Otherwise it's pointless. Ie...how it prevents flock like cameras from finding/recognize your phone, etc

I’d leave Verizon in a heartbeat if so. Been with them over 25 years and my service lately sucks arse.
You've never used starlink. Have fun when it's raining.

It also means that a terrestrial copper network near you will soon be decommissioned. The terrestrial cellular networks were never going to properly address deep rural areas of need, and the copper networks have obsolesced due to escalating maintenance costs.
It was inevitable that orbital satellites would fill the need … goodonya

The 800mhz is game changer... if it penetrates structures the way they say
I’m in amateur radio and I’m not sure this is what people will want. The frequency range is a big trade off. Traditional carriers keep pushing for higher and higher frequencies because customers want speed. The problem is that doesn’t have very good range at all. Dropping down to 800mhz will get great coverage but you won’t be streaming porn on that.
5G UW is in the 3.8ghz range. 800 is just going to be voice

True, but starlink handles data just fine … even roaming

800mhz is in the upper end of what tv stations used to use in the analog days (UHF channels). If they're splitting voice off from streaming and just putting it on there, it could indeed be a game changer as an 800mhz signal can travel hundreds-to-thousands of miles if you've got a clear line of site (like you get from space, facing Earthward) and you split voice and GPS off on it (leaving video for higher bandwidths).
While this could allow for nefarious actors to track people better, it would also allow for people to be able to make and receive calls from anywhere in at least the continental US and coastal waters as well as allow better ability to locate people who have become lost in the wilderness.

Phones would be multi-band capable I would think. Not sure how the beam for data would work though, will be interesting. All I have at home is StarLink now and it's great. The sats in leo are constantly connecting and dropping as they pass and require the normal clear view to the sky so not sure how data on a phone would work outside of 800.
