Last month I stopped at the farmers market and picked up 20 vegetable plants for $1 a piece. My peppers are almost here, looking forward to spinach, carrots, onions, and more.

Last month I stopped and picked up 5 baby hens. They are so quiet sometimes I forget I have them. Won't be long now until I have eggs everyday for breakfast.

Keep spending $15 a meal on fast food. For two of your lunches, I bought a lifetime of free food.

I don't think you understand what free means.

I grow vegetables too, but if we are being honest, it's far from free food.

Sorry it isn't a source of handouts. I now own it, and I will never have to pay for it again. The fruit will produce my next seasons' seeds, and God gives water in the form of rain. I won't be paying for it again. Yes, every harvest after the first is free.

If you need some seeds and cannot afford them, I will send you some.

You're probably right. What is a dozen eggs per week, times 3 years, times the current price of eggs. Add the cost of feed, and subtract the cost of gas for going to the grocery store.

Or just say, I'll be okay in the coming tribulation.

Chickens eventually quit producing eggs and either die or you kill em and cook em...

Vegetables are more than likely not going to produce seed that germinate well unless you got non-GMO plants...

So, you got vegetables for a season and eggs for 3 to 4 years tops...

you need a rooster dawg; then you'll hear them....and not to be too critical, but a baby female is a pullet. they'll be hens when sexually mature.

I understand, this post is meant for others to see what they are doing wrong, or to help them in some way. I know people are struggling right now.

I do have a rooster, but the noise is the biggest problem for most neighborhoods. So hens alone are quiet and still lay.

Wait, you're only getting to eat vegetables and eggs for the next few years?

Well then...

You're about to find out how much luxury that is. I still know how to live without toilet paper and paper towels, I'm experienced though.

Heirloom vegetables, and seeds from a neighbors garden that he reuses.

Rooster to fertilize, and an incubator if necessary. I'd prefer to see the grown hens raise more babies though.

Lol.

Yep. It’s vegetables and eggs that are breaking my bank.

Look, I like that you are doing this and I hope others do. But, veggies and eggs are not expensive. I buy them at a farmers market and they do all the work and it is not expensive at all.

I do wish you great success.
