Former Democrats Flock to See Trump, And Hope to Oust Manchin

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—President Donald Trump urged West Virginia to oust Senator Joe Manchin during his final rally blitz before Election Day, and found an approving audience among disaffected Democrats.
Trump supporters who gathered at the Huntington Tri-State Airport were optimistic about Patrick Morrisey's chances of upsetting the Democratic incumbent on Tuesday. Some stood in line as early as 11:45 a.m. Friday, more than four hours before the rally began.
"I like Joe," Trump said. "The problem is, I'm just not going to get his vote. He's a friend of mine. I'm just not going to get his vote."
Allegiance to the president's agenda was on the minds of supporters, many of whom are former Democrats. The audience was full of them, some personally convinced to change parties by the president himself, like Gov. Jim Justice and Dorothy McPhee.
"I have been a Democrat sixty some years of my life," said Dorothy, who grew up in Winfield County. "I switched over a couple years ago to Republican because I no longer can tolerate the Democratic stand on a lot of things."
Dorothy said the most important issues to her are the economy, taxes, immigration, "draining the swamp," and the opioid epidemic.

There was a thread last night on twitter that went on for miles of Dems saying the Kavanaugh treatment was the last straw and that though voted straight red. Many said they felt a little uneasy about it because some beliefs of the repubs they voted for were not their beliefs, but that it was clear the Dems as a whole are determined to destroy America so they voted red down the ticket.
I wish i had copied the link. it was amazing. Old and young. White and black. Male and female. Pink haired rockers and j crew preps. I was blown away. Gave me happy tears.
I was a little surprised that the Kavanaugh treatment is what convinced so many. They were convinced as it happened- BEFORE this woman admitted she lied.
There are other things in the past the Dems have lied about that can be proven without a doubt, whereas up until last night I would have expected many Dems to still believe what CNN told them to regarding Kav. Just because Dems seem to use emotions to make decisions rather than logic.

The ten Dems on the SJC and the media way overstepped their lines with the Kav hearing. Sensible people saw it for what is was.

berrycajun,
I was listening to npr yesterday in the car and they had several on there. Didnt vote for Trump, but the local economy and them personally (small biz owners) had seen the deregulation jump start their businesses. Then would say, "and what they did to that poor man Kavanaugh and his family...that just wasnt right, thats not what this country is about".

There are also many, maybe more now that I’ve read on, who are not saying their affiliation but that they’ve never voted in midterms before because they didn’t care enough to do so but now they’d crawl through glass to vote the Dems out this midterm election

Manchin talks like such a sensible guy, willing to cross the aisle....and then votes against Trump every time. The Kavanaugh vote was just to save his arse, he will go right back to the same ole shat.
He also sold out his state when they were being pummeled by hils wanting to put them out of business.

It’s so refreshing to hear this! Alleluia
I think the way Trump voters were the silent majority in 2016 is similar to what’s happening here. except now it’s people who usually vote democrat who are going to tip the scales by staying “silent” but voting straight red.
Some are speaking out as you heard on NPR and as I saw on twitter and with the #walkaway movement. But There’s likely many who are remaining silent though making a big red statement in that voting booth
Many are still scared to admit it. Hell I'm still too intimidated to put a Trump sticker on my minivan because i don’t want people to assume I’m racist. Sad, i know. But with kids in the van all the time, i wimped out.

Seems legit.

Harvard poll showed 85% thought the kavanaugh stuff was politically motivated. It does seem legit.

I don't think it makes a bit of difference.

#walkaway I think twitter turned it off months ago and never listed as trending.

This is what all moderate democrats should do this election. If we have a red Wave this election then either the democrat party will come back to the center or be eliminated. Even if your democrat and you can’t vote for republicans either then vote for a 3rd party candidate. Moderate democrats have to push the party back to the center now before it gets to far left .

I stopped here. No modern conservative could possibly use that ever again. You guys gave us preemptive War, nation building, the Patriot Act, a President Who grabs women by the pussy, a President Who Lies all the time, and a president who started a fraudulent University. You guys are the most devoid of morals

You bring up Kavanaugh. Manchin voted for him.
Lol

He held onto his vote until Cryin Chuck knew it was over and gave him the ok so he could tell WV he voted for Kav. If he’d been the deciding vote, he’d most likely have voted no.
