It pretty obvious that the demand for no outside attorneys to question Ford is simply so the dems can corner Republicans into making sound bites that they can use against them in the upcoming midterm elections. F@*k them and their tactics.

Professor Ford seems to forget that she is being given the OPTION of testifying freely.

She tries to dictate the rules and either they don’t bother to let her testify or, worse for her, subpoena her to force her to testify on their terms.

Thankfully many of the white men on the committee are lawyers in their own right.

I don't follow many congressional hearings but how are lawyers normally involved? I thought the questions always came from the elected officials.

This was pretty obvious to me as well when she obviously turned down the no camera offer, and said her demand is to have a limit of cameras to pool coverage.

And to have Kav go first. This is all a setup to put on a show that can be used against the Republicans regardless of whether Kav gets confirmed or not. If they fall for this, they are idiots. They need to say that the offer has been there. She can take or or leave it just the way it is.

The Dems want the visual of all white men questioning her. Hence, the demand that no lawyers are allowed to ask questions. They don't want a female attorney on the Senate staff asking all of the questions.

At 10:01 today Grassley needs to issue a statement and shut this clown show down. Testify Monday with no conditions or crawl back in your hole. The media is going to go crazy no matter what the Republicans do

If I was a lying sack of shite like Dr. Ford I wouldn't want a good trial lawyer questioning me either.

Yeah, a woman shouldn't have to be burdened with having to present actual evidence supporting her accusation in order to convince a bunch of old white men that she is telling the truth about the white man she is accusing of sexually assaulting her 36 years ago.

I’ve been screaming this from the rafters.

They should’ve done this Day One. You make her fight the subpoena. That begs the question: I thought she wanted to be heard?

The committees used to have a general counsel that would be used for cross examination of witnesses......Roy Cohn did it for McCarthy, I think Bobby Kennedy did it in the 1950's as well and recently ...a few years ago Richard Ben Veniste did it......not unusual at least historically

they should subpoena her to appear and when she doesnt show then vote kav in

plain and simple

and no they shouldnt go after her for not showing, that would give them the excuse to claim "attacking the victim"

In closed session, the staff or lawyers are often used to get information quickly and without posturing.

Open sessions are for the senators to get "face time" to support their re-election efforts. Only if there is an uninteresting topic - or if they have an unsupportable position, would a senator normally give up their 'face-time.'

in this case - no GOP senator wants to be portrayed as "bullying the poor victim" - which is how they will be defined regardless of what they do. And that is all the DEMs want/

The Senate Committee was going to bring in a female attorney to ask her questions. This didn't fit the Democrats narrative because they want males questioning her.

So, Ford is actually in charge of running the U.S. Senate?

Nice.
