For Valentine’s Day, Louisiana should cut its absurd florist licensing requirement

How very interesting....and irritating!
Louisiana is the only state in the country that requires someone to have a government-issued license to be a florist. If you look for a florist job in a state such as Pennsylvania, Florida, or New Hampshire, you will find some openings for jobs that require no experience and offer on-the-job training.
Meanwhile, in Louisiana, you must pass a test and pay a fee. The exam costs $114, and the license fee is $100, according to the state’s website. In the early 2000s, the test had a pass rate below 50% — lower than the state’s bar exam. It’s now better at 77%, but how does the government decide what a good bouquet looks like? Shouldn’t that be for the employer and for the consumer to decide?

Do it tomorrow. Don’t wait until the 14th.

If you don't pay very much in property tax then the government is going to get it somewhere else.
We pay a small fortune in permit fees, dmv fees, vehicle inspections, sales tax, income tax, etc.
Caesar will get his regardless...

Yup. And if you don’t pay any income tax...you owe a fortune in property. That’s why I never really understood the pro-no income tax people. It doesn’t matter what tit they get the milk out of it...you’re still the cow getting milked baw.

For real. My aunt had to sell her house she'd owned outright for over 30 years in TX and move back to Louisiana because her property taxes were so high in that "no income tax" state.

I’ve been beating this horse for years.
Property taxes are the worst form of taxation

I agree.
my father in law paid off his house 20 years ago. he still doesn't own it, in fact, one reason he hasn't retired yet is he needs to fund his "property tax" fund (yes, he has a specific investment account to ensure the estate can pay its taxes for at least 50 years- assuming current tax rates remain stable)

Except we do.
Rate is about 1% in St Tammany parish. national average is 1.1%
We also pay very high sales taxes and moderate income taxes
Louisiana is NOT a low tax state, except for large industry which gets exemptions.

I’m fine with paying my taxes. But it’s never used appropriately. We have no income taxes in Texas, and our schools and infrastructure are immaculate. There is constant improvement.

So....you’re getting taxation AND representation? Very interesting concept.

Texas also has tort reform, and is very business friendly in general. Which is why so many companies move here.

And yet we still rank bottom 3 in basically every posituve metric there is.
