5% of the budget is high enough for me. LA spends over a billion dollars on SNAP.

And this argument is dumb anyway. It's like saying ehhh don't even bother improving things because it isn't the largest funded gov dept.

That sounds like government employee thinking.

I'm not saying that the system can't be improved or tweaked

I'm saying the level of outrage is fricking ludicrous

People act like they're out of some serious coin to pay for these benefits. And it simply isn't the case.

Right.

So maybe morons like Wednesday can stop stressing about who spends what on food stamps as if she's somehow out of pocket 50 dollars every pay period over the fricking SNAP program.

So what you're saying is that theft, grift and corruption are okay as long as each transaction takes place at an infinitesmally small value over millions of people?

Will this ban be extended to those farmers who receive farm aid welfare?

Yeah

If we want a starving country that sounds like a good idea

If someone is in between jobs they shouldn't eat?

That's what unemployment insurance or short-term disability is for. When me and my wife decided to have children, both times we took out a short term disability policy to pay a percentage of her paycheck While She Was Out on maternity leave.

It's one of many things the government needs to improve.

I’m for anyone who receives money from the government from a system that they are not directly paying into having restrictions on where they can spend their money.

Every single time I’ve seen a snap beneficiary use their card they are eating better food than me and buying junk food as well. That’s bull shite. Bring back the food lines and if they don’t want to eat government cheese, breed, rice, and milk then they can find their own alternative. I figure out what I want to eat on a daily basis. It’s not my responsibility to support shitty food options or the casinos and strippers because they are fleecing us.

All I wanted to do in this debate is bring to the forefront the problem is SNAP beneficiaries abusing the system. Some of you are right that we shouldn’t be tracked or be required to swipe our ids because people are fraudsters. The only alternative is bringing back the food lines. That way they have to get the food that’s provided.

What portion of your income do you think goes to SNAP benefits?

I’m trying to figure out what is so wrong or funny or moronic about with trying to make sure that what we are paying for with food stamps also benefits the food recipient’s health, and also manages to decrease what we also pay in taxes to pay for her medical expenses. Entitlement benefits, including Medicare are a monstrous portion of our spending.

I don’t think we should get rid of food stamps, but I do think we should certainly limit what they cover to make sure that we encourage healthy behavior as opposed to unhealthy behaviors- which are ultimately more expensive for those of us footing the bill and ultimately harmful for the people depending on benefits.

I’m definitely not about tagging their drivers licenses so I can track food stamp recipients into tittie bars and casinos. Ultimately, we’re just supplementing people’s incomes with food stamps. But creating another police state to make sure they spend their disposable income as we see fit is a waste of everyone’s time and money. We’re spending more on welfare and not seeing any benefit.

To agree with HHTM - it problably would cost us a minimal amount to teach a credit card machine that it has to decline purchase from a candy aisle. It helps everyone- the payors and the recipients.

It's not even that complicated.

Grocery store cashier systems already have the capability to allow certain types of food for certain transaction types.
