No. When you vote you are picking from two candidates that both agree in the essential nature of government...just from different sides.

Couldn’t be the entitlement, coddling, job for life sans a Felony charge, bloated pension system, and no account jobs where they aren’t doing anything other than sitting there playing make believe because of all the duplication? Right?

It's hilarious that you mention this, because I was thinking the exact same thing about the public sector earlier. Big snowfall in the small town I grew up in, people up in arms that their business they work for didn't close early, allowing them to stay safe and drive home without the treachery of... snow...? Bad mouthing the business that puts food on their table and into their children's mouths. As a military member that's not something I see from people I work with or my subordinates.

Well, I have worked as a State government employee (retired), as a member of the clergy, in the private sector as well as for a nonprofit. If there is a difference it seems to be this: as a government employee there is precious little incentive - other than personal ambition - to perform above basic expectations as the reward system is sporadic at best - which could be design for all I know. I had a terrific benefit package but it wasn't free by any stretch.

At the end of the day, people are people and some are high performers, some are marginal performers and the rest of us mortals somewhere in between.

This maggot that’s afraid of being accountable has been safely working air traffic for 30 years. It doesn’t matter who I work for because I can do something that few can. Let me know when your air traffic company is hiring. I might step up and work for you later on.

I signed up because I wanted to serve my country.

It’s tough to get that sense of honor in the private sector.

Most companies won’t hire someone with government experience on their resume. It is for good reason. That is why we have government jobs. So these people can be employed.

You are literally too stupid for words. People routinely leave government at all levels and transition to the private sector.

People with technical skillsets are in demand and garner market price whether within or without the Government.

Sure, the low end workers are typically not the cream of the crop, but some are very good employees. The good ones get recognized and are appreciated.

Sorry your limited experience is reserved to rubbing elbows with the worst of the worst. This says more about you than it does any of the Government workers you take such glee in bashing.

You sound like a miserable human.

I’m with you. I have carved out a couple of niches for myself in state government forensic services. I have done private practice but working with forensic patients in what I enjoy most. The state has best opportunities for this. I’ve developed a training and monitoring program that helps employees reduce aggressive behavior by the patients. This results in less seclusion’s and restraints and less people getting hurt. I also have developed a new curriculum for competence restoration that is locally successful.

I work much harder doing government work than I ever needed to in private practice.

Most of them older, but a good bit of younger ones too. Many of which could walk into the private sector and make close to double their salaries now. But they take pride in working for the government, for much less pay, in effort to helping their country.

That's how it works in my office. It's rewarding. I couldnt double my salary but I could get 40% more probably

I firmly believe that if these jobs were eliminated and still necessary, a private company would spring up to handle them.

I'm a structural engineer for the Federal Government. In the 10 years I have been working in this capacity, 3 engineers have been separated for "lack of fit". The entire office has turned over and I am now the longest tenured engineer here. There is/are competition, expectations, accountability and opportunity to leave for the private sector. High performers get promoted, choice assignments, bonuses, etc. Non-performers get marginalized, rated poorly, encouraged to "look around". It's very similar to working in a large corporation.

People who's experiences differ from this are dealing with low-end, non-technical fields or potentially a group of lazy individuals/managers.

As stated already, staffing levels swell during economic downturn and lean-out during economic booms. People move back and forth between public private employment fairly often.

The main difference is the stability. The government doesn't really downsize due to lost contracts.

In some case, yes. Others are "inherently Governmental" such as "regulation and enforcement". One private entity regulating another is not an acceptable situation, in most people's eyes.
