I don't think it's stupid. But it should be somewhere where there is organic support for it and where he had some meaningful connection.
Some politician who had nothing to do with Kirk virtue signaling by wanting one on a campus that had nothing to do with Kirk is dumb.
But Kirk was assassinated for doing the type of thing colleges should be in the business of - fostering civil and contentious debate. They should name elementary schools after him, they should probably build some statues, so forth. But it should be ground up, not top down for political points.
