Rep. Pete King (N.Y.) is the first House Republican to back a bill in the chamber seeking to ban assault weapons.

"They are weapons of mass slaughter," King told the New York Daily News on Monday shortly after his support for the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 as a co-sponsor became public on Congress's website.

"I don't see any need for them in everyday society," he added.

Why is NY so against guns?

First, define assault weapon, intelligently. Then, you can make that statement.

If I was planning on going on a shooting spree an AR would not be my first choice.

No other Republican will back this.

I can actually see a few Dems voting against it as well.

You do realize that they have already been defined, don't you?

The Dems? Yeah they have; it's called a gun, whether it's a BB gun, PoP Tart Glock or finger revolver.

This right here. Voters have a right to know how legislation potentially impacts their rights.

Holy frick, three idiots reply and don't even realize THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN AN "ASSAULT WEAPONS" BAN IN THE US.

If you actually want to know what the definition is, I suggest you look up the details of the 1994 "Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act". I'm not sure why anyone would think they've changed the definition since then.

Good. They are supposed to be.

Good. They're not supposed to be.

Weapons are not for normal life. Neither are fire extinguishers. Both are necessary in certain situations.
