And why do they call their opponents fascists? It goes back to the Spanish Civil War.
And what happened in that war between the communists and Christian nationalists?
They were torturing priests and nuns, confiscating children and carrying out pogroms against anyone who wasn’t aligned with them politically with a huge focus on Christians.
How were they defeated? It took a monster named Franco turning full fascist and doing horrible things to put them back in check.
My argument isn’t that the right isn’t capable of winning, it’s that our political figures are grossly incapable or unwilling to address it politically and as a result when things kick off they will have metastasized to such a degree that a moderate response won’t be enough.
To defeat monsters you have to be a monster and that’s something I’d hoped we were past in the west but clearly aren’t.
