With their “data”, what argument are Progressives trying to make exactly?

That they are tougher on crime?

That being softer on crime results in criminals deciding to forego a life of crime because authorities are being nicer to them now?

As usual when it comes to Progressive claims of making something better, the old bullshite detector is spinning off the desk.

No surprise here. It’s easy to make statistics favorable when you cherry pick which ones you use

It's brilliant, actually.

Stop reporting crime from crime-ridden cities. Take credit for the drop.

Admin changes, reporting resumes... LOOK AT HOW BAD CRIME IS NOW!!

Someone posted two graphs last week where the "good" numbers were because only 90 of 264 cities were reported (as opposed to like 215 of 264 in the "bad" numbers).

IIRC, some (most?) of the major cities who don't report to the DOJ use a different system instead. NYC is one. NYC report

quote:

Overall crime is down both on the streets of New York City and below in the subways, however, there was a spike in both assaults and robberies in the first quarter of this year.

quote:

Murder is down 17.2%, rape is down 3.7%, burglary is down 13.8%, grand larceny is down 2% and grand larceny auto is down 9.7% this first quarter of 2024 compared to the same time period in 2023.

quote:

However, felony assaults did see a 3.8% spike this quarter.

Los Angles also didn't report. Article form January

quote:

Violent crime overall in Los Angeles decreased more than 3% in 2023, officials said Wednesday.

Shootings were down 10% in 2023 compared to 2022. Homicides were also down by about 17%, from 392 victims in 2022 to 327 last year, according to data released by the Los Angeles Police Department.

For the first time since 2014, the number of traffic deaths, which increased by 8% to 336, surpassed homicides.

quote:

Citywide, there was a 16% increase in theft in 2023 compared to 2022.

So not reporting doesn't mean that crime is increasing in those jurisdictions.

How would reporting the spikes in 2021 and 2022 make this argument? .

Why didn't they fake the numbers then?

The only good thing Joe Biden has done in his life is the mass incarceration of hood rats.

of course it's showing "historic" drops. I doubt even half of it is even reported anymore.

When crimes aren't reported, reported crime rates drop. It's just that simple.

The Biden admin will be taking credit for the “historic” drop so I’d be interested to know what Progressive policies of theirs they will say contributed.

Will they say they are tougher on crime?

Will they say all these criminals got good paying jobs due to Biden policies and gave up a life of violent crime?

Did criminals just have a change of heart because government cares now?

That means they have to take credit for the most violent period since the mid-90s, too.

“Will they” doesn’t imply someone has already done.

So, you think they’ll just release that “historic” drop today and leave it at that?

We will see I guess.

Yes. Like they did every year from about 95 to 2015

This isn't some Democrat/Republican thing, either, and it certainly isn't due to anything coming out of DC.

Which President from Clinton to Obama took credit for the major crime decrease? None. Who got the credit? Local leaders like Rudy G

And that classification isn't even made by LEO, usually. It's made by the medical examiner.

adds another layer to the conspiracy

Not really.

Depends on how its viewed. Most Democrats think self defense is murder.

Anyone saying property crime is down significantly is full of shite. They've just raised the threshold on prosecution.

Every major west coast city has open ari "fences"

Ok, fair enough. We’ll see if this admin doesn’t try and take some political credit for it.

No problem with giving you your kudos if you’re proven right on this one.

ETA: That didn’t take long.

"President Biden has worked hard to clean up [Trump's] mess, and it’s working," Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement, referencing the new FBI data.

Biden himself put out a statement late Monday afternoon as he returned to the White House from Delaware. "Violent crime is dropping at record levels in America. It’s good news for our families and our communities," he said. "This progress we’re seeing is no accident. My Administration is putting more cops on the beat, holding violent criminals accountable, and getting illegal guns off the street – and we are doing it in partnership with communities. As a result, Americans are safer today than when I took office," he added.
