Based on what we know about him, why would you have expected any sort of competence in this field?

The FBI is grand standing at the moment with the free press they are getting. Nothing more.

Until the FBI report is released we still are missing two important factors.

1) an guilty admission from him stating his intent or some manifesto he has written that will be found,

and

2) a breakdown of exactly what materials were used and components. One thing sure we his delivery method would not work with any component they have already disclosed to cause a detonation. There was trigger via a tilt, flip, or any type of switch.

So.....they ALL malfunctioned? They were all real bombs that didn't work?

I'm NOT saying that it's any better to send fake bombs or real bombs through the mail, but if they were the former, then they are hoaxes, by definition.

I am disgusted with the misuse of language to lie to your face and claim they were 'technically correct.' = pisses me off more than anything else.

This is the biggest reason I have become a staunch Trump supporter - the MF'er, for all his faults - never tries to pull the wool over your eyes. The man talks like to buddies out on a fishing trip. Exaggerate like hell - you got that right - yeah the fish wasn't actually a 27 pounder, but you know he caught a damn big fish!!!! He won't dump a trashcan full of word salad on you and leave you wondering if he was out fishing or fukcing!!

these bombs were HOAXes - they still served their purpose = inciting terror, for a while. And that is a crime. Not as much as a crime that leaved 57 bleeding bodies in the rubble of a building, but a crime nonetheless.

Say what you mean - mean what you say - that's all

and I don't know why I directed this screed at you -

Then they don't know for sure. They could say it also seems like a hoax since none of the bombs worked couldn't they.

The FBI would never do that. They are cops and cops go for the biggest charge they can possibly get every time.

Those duct taped PVC pipes could be full of sawdust and since wood can burn that's enough for them.

Very possible.

Correct. We don't know the basis of the quote in the op. At this moment we are left with assumptions.

IF he was that incompetent and was actually trying to make a real bomb (one that would explode) then he would have killed himself before he got to # 3.

No way he could have assembled 14 of these pieces of shite if he was really trying to create a dangerous device that could cause damage without accidentally setting it off.

FIrst - he would have had to use some sort of gunpowder as the explosive component - then he would have had to have incorporated some kind of trigger - and third he would have used something besides 6" of PVC pipe as the container.

ALL of this together makes it a HOAX of a bomb, but an effective terror device. Like sending an envelope full of baby powder and making people think it is ricin.

He was incompetent as a human being - but he was smart enough to not try actually assembling a dangerous device.

Most crimes have an element of intent that is proved by evidence without any mind reading.

Except I was responding to a specific poster who said "in his mind" as if he knew definitely the intent.

I also understand the concept of profiling and based on the evidence presented he has showed a level of organization that would lean more towards sending to scare not harm. He tracked down addresses for 14 locations. Using the same internet that would show you how to apply a trigger & detonator to the device which according to the FBI none of the devices had them. He never covered his tracks and yet provided way to many ways to be found as if he wanted to be caught.

I was simply defining what would make this not a hoax....

This isnt debatable. If this guy wanted his devices to explode, and in his mind they were made to explode, this isnt a hoax

Look at the word IF

I am saying the definition isn’t debatable

Oh sure...I agree that it's possible/likely that the hoaxer himself intended to hoax. The post I was responding to was insinuating it was some grander hoax above the hoaxer's head.
