In a nutshell this is why people hate coat wearers. It's authoritarian nonsense

Someone in a thread earlier said the children are separated from the parents to verify the parents are actually the parents.

If you were told that many young kids are brought here by strangers (not parents) to mule or for trafficking, would you still be upset that there is a verification process where the children are separated?

Realize, when these people come across, we have no ID on them or idea what their intentions are. I for one, like the idea that we can help protect one child from the "bad people" in this circumstance.

I hope he was just being sarcastic with that comment. I tend to agree that Trump's policies are all politically motivated to give his base something to cheer about; but, that can also certainly be said for all politicians. That is what is inherently wrong with politicians and why we need short term limits. We certainly don't want to turn into Europe and have refugee camps and whole portions of large cities looking like the Middle East (London, Brussels, Paris have very large sections of the city that do not resemble anything European); so, I get it that we need to protect our borders. I was bothered though by Sessions reference to the Bible to support the actions; but, that far right extreme BS is too much and degrades the intelligence of a large part of Trump's voting base--even if some of them do not know it and don't realize they are being played. The powers that be should just tell us the truth with what they are doing and WHY they are doing it-----is it to gain leverage to build the wall? If so, let's do it better and doing it "better" is what makes America great.

I do not agree that immigrants should be punished

out of curiosity, can you clarify this statement?

do you mean there should be no laws/regulations on who enters this country?

or do you think there should be no penalty for breaking any of those laws/regulations?

There is a strand of thought that immigrants should be punished for coming here illegally. What could be a better punishment than taking someone's kids?

Building a wall. Building a wall stops all this horrible separation.
If your against the wall your pro separation.

Thats how its done slick.

When the policy is endorsed by the trump admin and stated that it is being used as a punishment and deterrent.. which is senseless and anyone with even an iota of intelligence could improve the system without being cruel.

Cruel is selling your kids and having them marched to a border to attempt an illegal crossing.

These kids aren't being treated cruelly. But You knew that.

10k unaccomanied minors. That's cruel.

No, immigrants should not be punished for coming here. If they did without the right paperwork or process, they should be returned to their country of origin. There should be no punishment beyond that.

there are people that want to see immigrants suffer, and I think that is despicable.

Yeah bro. He should learn to be moral like parents taking their kids along for a crime spree, then blaming those who take them into custody.

That's horrible. The kids are treated fine.. until we lose track of them. It was wrong under Obama and it's wrong now.

It's not hard to set up a better system. Adjoining rooms with glass walls so they can stay in view, for example.
