I haven’t justified a single thing. In fact, just the opposite. Calling one action worse than another isn’t justification.

That’s because I’m having to respond to about a dozen creepy arse weirdos who believe a 50 year old molesting a 4 year old is the same as a teenager sleeping with a 24 year old.

I’ve been posting on this board since 2012. You’ve been registered on the whole website since 2018.

Not remotely true. In fact, I started a thread following his first debate to note how well he did and was laughed at. I questioned his campaigning methods at the time, because I didn’t think they’d work. But I don’t believe I ever insulted him, and certainly was not anywhere near “TDS” status. Was full blown MAGA by 2018.

Throughout these 7 pages of debate over what is/isn't pedophilia, has anyone corrected the OP over what this bill is actually doing?
Nothing has been decriminalized.
Nothing has been decriminalized.
quote:
The bill prevents young adults engaging in non-vaginal sex with a minor within 10 years of their age from being automatically added to the sex offender registry, and allows a state judge to make that decision instead.
California judges previously only had discretion over registering individuals as sex offenders if they have engaged in vaginal intercourse with a minor over 14 years old and within a 10-year age range.
Sex offender registration for those engaging in non-vaginal intercourse was automatic.
The bill extends the same discretion for state judges over sex offender registration for certain young adults who have engaged in voluntary vaginal or non-vaginal sex with certain minors.

(1) From what I have seen, this legislation does not "decriminalize" anything. It just makes some changes in what offenses and offenders will go onto the Registry, and how long they will stay there.
(2) Some posters seem to be struggling with the distinction between "consent de facto" and "consent de jure." A teen can obviously consent de facto. It is equally obvious that a pre-pubescent child should NEVER be allowed to provide consent de jure.
The question is not even WHETHER a teen should be allowed to consent de jure (see the Romeo/Juliet laws in almost every American jurisdiction), but rather WHEN a teen's consent de facto will also constitute consent de jure. The posters asserting that "a teen can never consent" just have no understanding whatsoever of the law.

Every political party wants morals pushed on the populace.
That's because at it's base, all of law is a list of morals that a society agrees to enforce.
Even actions we pretty much all Americans agree should be restricted (murder, rape, battery) have been, at least in certain circumstances, considered moral and thus legal in some society in human history.
The hard part in this country now is that the sources of our values, ethics, and morality are starting to diverge greatly.
