Synopsis it was a little racist?

Race wasn't involved. It was one side getting a permit for a peaceful protest.. and the democrats in that area incited violence...and encouraged their constituents to counter the peaceful protest with physical pressure.. then after it got heated, like the democrats wanted.. the democrats ended the protest.. which meant the police forced the peaceful protesters to clash with the violent rioters. Then the police stood down.
After a while, the whole thing reached a boiling point. And it ended with a white guy being charged with killing a white chick.

Where have they all been for the past year? Why did this huge movement all suddenly go underground after this ONE incident? If they are so easily cowed, then why should I be so concerned at this point?

Yeah, and I don't get how this jibes with the narrative that Trump has somehow "emboldened" these people.
