Story
quote:
The agency is hunting people with psychiatric issues and other mental and physical conditions in its latest diversity drive. The FAA, which includes jobs such as air traffic controllers, are keen to employ those with hearing and vision impairments, missing limbs, partial and complete paralysis. Such a broad recruitment is all part of what the FAA term its 'Diversity and Inclusion' hiring plan
quote:
The FAA states on its website how individuals with 'severe' mental and physical disabilities represent an under-represented segment of the federal workforce.
quote:
However, there has been renewed attention on the FAA and the airline industry as a whole following an incident earlier this month when a plug door on a Boeing 737 Max 9 malfunctioned during an Alaska Airlines flight.
quote:
Following the shocking incident, some public figures including Elon Musk suggested that diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives may be responsible for compromising safety in the airline industry. 'It will take an airplane crashing and killing hundreds of people for them to change this crazy policy of DIE,' Musk wrote on his X platform on Tuesday, rearranging the abbreviation for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

I’m thankful Trump is doing exactly what we voted him in to do, feelings be damned.

Here's how it usually works:
Trump says something off the cuff.
People flip their lid and scream at the sky.
A little time passes.
Trump was right.

I remember this, thanks for the reminder.

And as he said in the presser they reversed this idiotic policy when he took office but I don’t think a week is enough time to root out every moronic hire the previous band of idiots made

For 10 days, not the last 4 years before that.

@heymamma your thoughts?

It's amazing that a policy of "all government agencies should be singularly and obsessively focused on achieving the core mission of said agency as efficiently and as effectively as possible" is controversial
Secret Service should have nothing to do with ensuring opportunity for women, FAA should have nothing to do with representation of people with disabilities, the military should have nothing to do with "reflecting" the diversity of all Americans, and so forth.
Let it be so Trump - Americans will go to bad on this.

Like I said earlier, there's a reason he went on such fiery offense. There's something they know and they're going to use it to beat the frick out of DEI, which they absolutely should.
And for all you handwringers with the "Now is not the time", bullshite. It's time. Are you getting on a plane soon? Any of your loved ones flying soon? If there's someone who is unqualified and they had anything to do with it, it needs to come out and blame must be assigned so it never happens again.

Current job listing for an air traffic controller on the FAA's website is open to people with disabilities including psychiatric & intellectual delays.
Doesn't it make you feel safe knowing your air traffic controller can have an intellectual disability or have a seizure while directing your flight?
DEI will get people k*ll*d.

The people who come up with this stuff need to be dealt with properly.
