You are 100% correct, the point is that if you bomb said individual’s neighborhood, you might be killing innocent people who side with us.

That would be unfortunate, but I will take an American life over a handful of possible foreign allies. And importantly it would teach a painful lesson.
We definitely have the intelligence to be able to find out who exactly is the capturer (if it comes to that). How many Iranian regime supporters will want to follow official commands if they think it means we annihilate their neighborhood?

If this is football, we are winning 63-3. Just because they got a field goal again our 3rd team, doesn't mean we werent dominating.
Its war, shite happens. The other side is occasionally going to get something.
Furthermore, you can have air superiority and the other side still have the occasional surface to air missile battery. Which is likely what happened here.
