X + Y = Z

So the hardware can handle only Z-amount of bandwidth, of which Y is necessary for combatting a pandemic.

If the amount of bandwidth necessary for hi-def entertainment for everyone sitting at home 24/7 exceeds “X” and thus hinders “Y,” but the bandwidth for the same number of users at lower definition is less than “X” and thus does not interfere with “Y,” I think people can “take one for the team” and watch a few grainy movies for a couple of weeks.

First World Problems.

What are you babbling about? The EU asked Netflix to voluntarily reduce bandwidth usage, in order to address a public health problem.

In that which passes as your “mind” this is some sort of authoritarian overreach.

Good Lord.

Hardly. It sounds as if the EU asked Netflix to voluntarily reduce its bandwidth consumption across the board. That is quote the opposite of “from each according to his means,” since it hits everyone in exactly the same way.

Really? There aren’t tiers of subscriptions at Netflix? All people get the same quality of pictures? There aren’t speeds of internet downloads? All people get the same?

You are incorrect. There are people getting SD now because that is all they pay for.
