We cut cable about 5 years ago and never looked back!!

Don’t miss it AT ALL!!

As a matter of fact I’m visiting family and they still have cable……the amount of garbage on tv now a days is disgustingly baaaaaad!!
Quality of the programs is abysmal, it’s all about sex and shock tv!!

Still losing!

They must be down to just the hotel lobby - hospital waiting room audience now.......hum.

Can a business survive on that?

It's not all cord cutting because that number includes ESPN+ subscribers too

Does it? ESPN+ is not the same thing as ESPN

People only watch ESPN for live events. Those events can be farmed out to other places like Amazon etc.

Sports is now viewed as a single streaming option vs a cable channel.

Disney's management is just trying to find a honey bucket that fits ESPN's foot perfectly. Or maybe they just need to find some fresh political turds to put into their customers punch bowl!

Oh sorry, we didn't realize you polled everyone who dropped ESPN and 100% of them indicated that ESPN's wokeness had no effect on their decisions.

When I was in highschool, I would turn on Sportscenter every afternoon when I got home from school. Outside of Saints games, I can't tell you the last time I have watched that shite channel

I'm doing my part by only watching ESPN for live coverage of NFL, NBA Playoffs NHL playoffs, MLB, college football, college baseball, tennis, NFL draft, and various Tom Brady specials

They lost me. Finally canceled Directv. Won’t be getting anything to replace it besides bunny ears to watch local for free.

Serious question, why don't cable services provide a true a la carte option and simply cut the crap that no one wants? I could maybe understand the logistical issues of this a decade or more ago, but surely the technology is available at this point to figure this out. Seems like deals could be made to include many of the streaming services that have popped up and are becoming less and less desirable on their own.

did you poll everyone who dropped espn? lol

it's the evolution of media. used to be espn was the best source for sports and sports news. now there are a million options. same goes for cable tv. certainly a few thousand butt hurt magas purposely cancelled their subscriptions but that's a tiny number overall

I cut the cord several years ago due to explosion in the price of cable/satellite. Now my streaming for Directv Now is $90/month and we watch maybe 6-8 channels. The only reason I keep it, is for college football and basketball. If I can figure out how to get only the games I want to watch, Directv Now will lose another subscriber and ESPN will lose out on whatever they are being paid for my subscription.

No. I also didn't speak in ridiculously broad certainties that are patently false and unprovable.

ETA: I haven't watched live TV since GoT, and before that I didn't watch it, except for LSU NC. After that, I cut the cable completely (I kept it for years "just in case"). Part of the impetus was ESPN's wokeness going back to the early 2000's and finding out how ESPN was taking like $5-8 from me each month because they forced cable companies to bundle them in.

I gave up on ESPN several years ago. Don't remember the year but I was watching the NFL draft. The gay LB'er from Missouri got drafted late. ESPN had to make a big deal showing him and his man kissing on each other. That was more than I could deal with and canceled cable the next day. Now I only have cable during college football season to watch my Dawgs & SEC football, along with little bit of Tucker Carlson. Other than that ESPN and cable can kiss my white ... @#$!!

This is not like cancelling Netflix or some other self-contained streaming service. Big chunk of this is probably people just cutting the cord and going with some mix of streaming platforms.

You got 11 downvotes but that's exactly what the article said. This has nothing to do with wokeness, it's people cutting the cord on cable in general, and espn can't replace them with it's streaming service due to contractual obligations it has with NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA, SEC, and others.

I'm old enough to remember when people used to get cable or satellite JUST for sports. Seems like six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

Ohhh so the ARTICLE polled everyone...

I am proof (at least to myself, hard to convey my thoughts to others in a manner that they will be certain I'm being truthful) that wokeness DOES affect decisions. I cut the cord BECAUSE I didn't want ESPN getting my money. I wasn't watching anything, but I do well and the trouble of cutting the cord when I might want it later wasn't worth the hassle.
