Eric Reid believes that the intent of the original protests is being lost

"He thinks that [the weekend's protest] was a direct response to, obviously, what the president said," Reid said. "He wishes that this many people were involved last year. I don't think the narrative would have went in as many directions as it went if we had more solidarity. We could have focused in on these issues, but we have got to be pragmatic about it. We have this opportunity now, and it's important that we discuss the issues and make changes."
quote:
Reid, who is currently dealing with a left knee injury and normally wouldn't be made available to speak while injured, talked to the Bay Area media for about 20 minutes Wednesday. In that discussion, he hit on a variety of topics and attempted to steer the conversation toward the issues that he and Kaepernick first wanted to address as well as what he hopes will come next. Throughout the course of the session, Reid repeatedly referred to notes he had on his phone from friend Clint Smith, a writer, teacher and Ph.D. candidate at Harvard, who has focused his research on mass incarcerations, the sociology of racism and the history of inequality in the U.S. Among the topics Reid specifically addressed were police brutality, social injustice, the bail system and the importance of local government elections, specifically with district attorneys. Along the way, he retraced the steps of inequality starting with the Great Depression through the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965, respectively.
quote:
"I think these conversations make people uncomfortable, and I think that's a way for them to deflect from the issues that we really want to talk about and steer the narrative in a different direction," Reid said. "And so, my goal is to do a better job this time around of controlling the narrative, talking about the issues, which I hope we can talk about today and getting people to understand why we're doing it, because these issues are real."

When does he want to talk about black on black crime?

The original "protest" was Kaep sulking on the bench during the anthem.
Just fyi, Eric.

I agree with him and acknowledge that problems do exist, but that does not absolve you of your personal accountability.

I think that Reid has some really insightful points here. All of the stuff this weekend was purely reactive. I am about as far from being an SJW as is possible, but I also think that to refuse to listen is shortsighted and closed minded. It's much simpler to just yell, "I boycott!" and move along.

They will eventually get to that. You know what they will say? The white CIA infiltrated black areas with crack rock in the 1980's so cracker whitey is responsible for that too because the blacks were fighting and killing each other because of what the white cracker did to them.

I don't think anyone denies issues exist but the protests offer no solutions and only looking to place blame for the problems that exist. They just say "well we want to start the conversation" ok well you've done that, now bring some substance.

At the same time we talk about White on White crime, brown on brown crime, and yellow on yellow crime?

Agree, the original intent has been completely lost. I do not agree with the original intent though.

eh, the more likely retort is that systematic racism keeps blacks in poverty and that crime is more prevalent in poorer communities, thus more blacks commit crimes. Is a completely circular argument and gets old. Unless your stance is one of white guilt, then they won't listen to anything.

If Kaep wasn't benched, does he still sit/kneel...?

Why do these people care so much about what the POTUS says? The POTUS is the chief law enforcement officer and commander in chief of the United States, as far as the NFL is concerned, he and his opinions are irrelevant. He/She is not some Sun King/Queen that represents some pinpoint/centerpiece of morality and people need to understand that or these politicians will continue to be idolized/amplified as types of kings/emperors which they actually aren't in the United States. So much butthurt lol.

He's really not a typical idiot which makes it all the more disappointing from him.
And there's no way he's willing to hit the issues head on from all sides in this "discussion." If he wants to boldly engender this discussion, he needs to step back and go ride in a BRPD cop car for a few days (away from his bubble in Geismar where he grew up).

now, say waht you want about racial inequality but I can tell u one thing I am loock step in agreement with him on and that's the bail system
This is the one thing the feds get right. "There is no such thing s bail in federal court if you don't show up we send US Marshalls. U notice how u never hear anyone skipping fed trials? you don't want the US Marshalls inS your life
'
So u get arrested. I'm innocent until proven guilty but this dude gets to set this amount of money that I got to come up with, while in jail, to get out of jail
now its juust 10% of that amount so if i got a 10,000 dollar bail i got to come up wiht 1,000 pluss about a 100 dollar fee.
but what if i can't come up with bail, i lose my job that i had, i show up to my court hearing in jail attiture making me look guilty, i have no money for a lawyer because i lost my job cause i can't pay bail
pray to god you nevfer get arrested and get a jail if anything more than 1000-2000 dollars.
then u got to find someone to bail u out. I got popped on a poession charge and a bail of 1000 I had 500 ibn my pocket when i got arrested and had to sit in jail 4 days until someone could come get me, when i had the bail money on me, that was legit my money it wasn't dope money r anything.
and if the charges are dropped or you are found not guilty you dont get that money back.
bail system is a liscense to steal
