As is usually the case, there’s more to this issue than just emotion.

Trump to consider elephant trophy imports on 'case-by-case' basis (The Hill)
quote:

A federal appeals court ruled at the end of last year that the Obama administration did not follow the right procedures when it drafted its ban on the imports. The court also said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service should have gone through the extensive process of proposing a regulation, inviting public comment and making the regulation final when it made determinations in 2014 and 2015 that elephant trophies cannot be brought into the country.

The agency used the same procedures as the Obama administration for its ESA determination in 2017 that led to reopening African elephant imports to the U.S. in November.

The International Wildlife Conservation Council, a group established by the Department of the Interior, will advise Secretary Zinke, will meet for the first time on March 16th.

Don't care.

I like wildlife but if the animals can't adapt to live in todays world then they should go extinct.

Long after our fellow humans are extinct there will be millions of species that have never existed before.

There have been 5 mass extinction events in the history of the world.
The last one killed off 96% of marine life and over 70% of land life.

It is hubris to think that there will not be another mass extinction and or that the life we have now is the end all be all of evolution.

You left out...

"At the time, a FWS spokesperson said the reversal 'will enhance the survival of the species in the wild.”

...at the end of your long quote.

The ban was lifted by the FWS, but Trump paused it for review after calling it a horror show. Now he's changed his mind.

Banning trophy hunting hurts Africans in the way of less jobs, tourism, and revenue. Why do liberals hate Africa and Africans?

Should be "cash-by-cash" basis - case-by-case makes no sense, cash-only makes sure it works well for everyone.

I'm pretty Libertarian and generally happy with less/no government regulation. Still, like I said...I kinda like elephants.
