Exactly.
BR homeowners are voting with their feet. That is why Ascension and L.P. are kicking its arse.
If the bridge wasn't such a cluster, WBR and Iberville would also be kicking EBRs arse.

The city actively worked with EBR legislators to block SG.
They actively worked with Ben Nevers another legislator to try and block SG.
The city actively is involved in getting federal money for a Tram, a train to NO, and other projects.
Have they ever really went after money to widen 10 in downtown BR? Not like they worked to build parks, a new courthouse, expand the RC, and build bike paths and Greenways.
Reason? These people don't care as much as many of us do.

Again: they have no control over 10. Sorry you can't grasp that.
And efforts have been made to widen it by those who do. But there are property issues.
If people don't want to sell their property to the government to widen the interstate, then what would you suggest be done?

And SG actively engaged in using fraudulent signatures to pass the petition.
Are you okay with that? Are you okay with a government forming by using fraudulent means?
The City of Baton Rouge did nothing like that.

They did, and they got the money, but JBE diverted it to widen I-10 between the end of the Basin Bridge and I-49

BS
The city-parish is paying for an exit at I-10 and Pecue.
And I went to a public hearing put on by DOTD which indicated they had 99.9% of the property now to widen 10 from the bridge to 12.

Red herring
Man it was a petition, and anyone can sign and put anything on it.
That's why sigs are carefully checked,

They did accept a neighborhood during the last SG Petition drive that wanted to be apart of BR. It was a very small subdivision somewhere off Coursey Blvd.
The only issue here is right now the city parish govt can spend unicorporated tax dollars without providing services to these areas.
When they annex these areas into the City they now have to pay to provide services BRPD, fire hydrants, city budget pays for roads now not parish, etc. If you eat away at ST Georges Funding something will happen legally or through the council where the city will have to provide fire service (staff, building, trucks).
The last time I spoke to my councilman and another councilman the parish and city are growing too large in populated land mass to handle the services they are suppose to provide. Alot of the unicorporated taxes go toward city services even though it is not suppose to.
I can see in the near future everyone's taxes in EBRP shooting up even more.

Makes it easier to see why St. George needs an independent school district. Look at all those kids who are having to suffer in EBR schools.
Okay, EBR is perceived to be a poorly run school system, but when they have good kids they have some of the best schools in the state. The problem with EBR schools isn't the system but the circumstances of history. Well to do whites pulled out because a Federal Judge made a stupid ruling, the ruling no longer applies but these people aren't going back. Then we got charter schools who have selected enrollment but still under perform, and then we have RSD schools which also have selected enrollment and they under perform. By the way when EBR uses selected enrollment they do extremely well, look at Baton Rouge Magnet High.
So, what has happened is you have stripped the district of all the good students, those students standardized testing scores, and the state MFP money that comes with those kids and then complain that the school system itself is garbage.
Zachary pulled out before the desegregation was settled, Central was already in the process when it was settled. They pulled out to get away from forced bussing. If they were in EBR today those students would be doing just as good and the brightest ones would have the opportunity to go to BRMH. The reason I know this is it was EBR staff that was already there that made the administration of this districts, many of the teachers were EBR teachers at those same schools. Plus, their millage rates would almost be half of what they are now.
While I know it's not going to happen, if the people in south Baton Rouge would all pull their kids out of private school and go back to public school it would have the same results at a lower cost than a pull out district. They aren't going to bus your white kid to Istrouma, that only happened because of the desegregation case.

If just half the kids left private schools and went back to public schools, there wouldn't be classrooms to put them in, teachers to teach them, and enough money to do much about it.

Link?
And you still proved my point about private property being the big issue.

You do realize that they didn't flee the schools just because the racist parents were scared of those evil darkies, right?
The forced bussing and the complete lack of institutional discipline drove them out. The bussing issue has largely been resolved, but white students were coming home beaten half to death and bearing knife wounds after the forced bussing, and the few still in the schools not named Woodlawn face the same dangers still today.
