What is they show up in all Trump garb to read to the room of toddlers? Would that still be OK?
Of course. The parents who see that as being appropriate could bring their children, and the parents who felt otherwise could stay away. Each parent gets to raise his/her own child.

I don't think it is necessary to show up to read to children in anything other than street clothes
Of COURSE it is not "necessary." Neither cookies nor tropical punch would be "necessary," either. The sponsors of Story Time made a decision to go beyond the bare minimum and to provide (with full notice to the parents) additional features that SOME PEOPLE might find fun or entertaining. Those who DO see fun/entertainment can attend. Those who see something more sinister can choose not to attend. Again, each parent gets to raise his/her own child.

My ... opponents ... feel strongly that this choice should be withheld from that former group of parents because those ... opponents ... would choose otherwise for their own children.

I see that as being both authoritarian and dictatorial, and they insist (in every conceivable unrelated thread) that this makes me a "groomer."

But why the name calling. I don't get it. Everybody is so worried about the kids yet the behavior is pretty playground bully.
A bit of background.

SOS has told us that he was sexually-abused as a child, and we all have sympathy for that horrible event. Whether as a result of that event or otherwise, SOS is utterly convinced that every drag performer is a pedophile, and he reacts accordingly.

Hank and I have spoken to each other in this manner for a long time. This is the PT board not the kind and gentle board.
Actually, I have tried and tried to get SOS to interact like adults, but my efforts have been unsuccessful. Nonetheless, I do try to do so myself.

Also Hank likes to tell me how the gay world is when I'm the only gay one. He also enjoys telling black posters they are wrong about black issues. Aggiehank has the ability to become an expert on any issue by osmosis by living in neighborhoods that have gay and black people in it.
And SOS likes to completely misrepresent anything that I have ever said to him or to anyone else. He and the truth are ... at best ... passing acquaintances.

I lived in Oak Lawn for several years, despite being straight. I once opined that I probably understand gay guys better than most straight guys understand them, because of that bit of history. SOS likes to pretend that I instead claimed to know more about gays that a gay man would know. That exists only in his own head.

No, but I'm not retarded enough to believe overly sexualized men in dresses have altruistic intentions.
Another issue that we have discussed ... repeatedly.

Of COURSE their motives are not entirely altruistic. I think that they are trying to destigmatize alternative lifestyles, and you think that they are trying to frick small children in the mop closet at the library.

I respectfully disagree. State and federal funded schools should not have either present in the classroom. Education should be treated as neutral ground. Leave politics, gender issues and religion for the dinner table discussion between parents and their children. Even sending a note home isn’t appropriate. A child should not have to be excused from state funded educational time to acquiesce with a readers needs. If queens so choose to read at a local library and parents choose to take kids there, great. But if you can’t pray in school (which I am ok with) you can’t prance either.

You are drawing a conclusion that I hold an opinion I did not state and do not hold.

In a mandatory setting (like a classroom), this sort of event has no place. I thought we were discussing ACTUAL Story Hour events, which normally occur at libraries and such and which are entirely voluntary.

That is indeed the context that I was discussing.

Our prior discussions have proven conclusively that YOU do NOT. The behaviors that are properly categorized as "desensitization" by knowledgeable professionals are all "grooming" in your mind.

Again, Freud would LOVE you.

Ahh. My bad then. I thought you were speaking of public schools. I just wouldn't take my kids to that story hour.

Candidly, I probably would not have done so either, when my teen girls were that age. One of them is REALLY creeped-out by clowns, and drag performers are VERY much like clowns IMO, with the outrageous costumes and outrageous makeup.

I just don't see that I have any business telling OTHER parents that they cannot do so.

Absolutely incorrect and another lie. I've stated time and time again that drag shows are built around sexuality. They over sexualize their makeup, dress and dancing and none of that needs to be around children. I've also explained the seedy side of the drag world and it's heavy use of drugs. I've been around it and seen with my own eyes but because you think that living around a couple of gays gives you the ability to argue against my life experiences. I was also molested by 2 different older men that married and had children and neither one did drag.

Wow. I’m really sorry for your life experiences. I would agree with the drugs. I got the best drugs from gay bars in your neck of the woods actually. Greenville SC had some fun spots when I was 22 ??
