If memory serves, before government got so involved; we saw the NBA, the NCAA, and a host of other private entities shutting things down. It wasn’t all sparked by the government.

He actually wrote that on February 28th, and he is on record numerous times using 1% as the true fatality rate, which is much lower than the current fatality rate, but 10 times the seasonal flu.

Probably due to what state and national authorities were telling these organizations.

Not to piss on your celebration but you’re misreading this.
Fauci on why COVID 19 is different

COVID-19 is spread much more efficiently (easy) than Ebola, MERS, SARS so even if the mortality is closer to flu, the number will be huge. Plus, in the link Fauci says the mortality rate could be close to 10 times the flu.

Hey let’s hope for a “miracle”.

Yeah, like I said - the MSM had the Karens clutching at pearls.

We don't necessarily have to hope for a miracle, we could just hope some are off with their predictions

Dr. Fauci just confirmed what the vast majority of MD/DOs already knew and have been saying all along. With the being said I have few major things to point out.

1. The political leadership of the world and the non-medical people of the world wanted to believe that global pandemics were a thing of the past. Just like they wanted to believe that mass migration was a thing of the past. However, the world was ripe for a pandemic. The number of people not getting vaccinated or keeping their vaccines up to date, not staying home or keeping their kids home from school, and the number of people not practicing good hand hygiene and other common sense measures had been rising prior to this COVID-19 stuff.

2. Most of the reasonable and what I would call common sense social distancing (I.e voluntarily work from home if you do not feel well), and the good hygiene measures that the administration has been putting out are things that people should be doing for the flu and the common cold. Those along with getting the flu shot and keeping your vaccines up to date need to continue even after this whole COVID-19 stuff is over.

3. The economic collapse, the shutdown of sports, the interruption to every day life, the global shortage of arse wipe is a result of the panic not the virus. The panic was induced by the MSM, the democrats, and taking advantage of the fact that it would take months for accurate numbers to come in and for the real mortality rate to be established and for the medical community to see the whole picture of what this virus is and what it does. IDK if they anticipated the influences of the pandemic of stupidity (aka social media) when they made the decision to cause a panic and hurt the economy which would hurt POTUS’s election chances or not. That might not be the case in other countries, but it was definitely a driving factor in the panic here in the USA.

4. 84% of people with symptoms severe enough to need testing DO NOT HAVE COVID-19!

Much more easily spread. And the focus on mortality is a bit misplaced. Many more with COVID require hospitalization — even if they don’t die. Even if it doesn’t kill you—you probably don’t want want to get this.

The “good” thing about H1N1 and most of the other examples was people died quickly without taking up much resources.

The long duration hospitalization is the bigger risk here. That puts medical workers at high risk, and that has high-risk knock on consequences.

A hospital in Missouri had 7 workers (in that one hospital) who had tested positive as of last week. We only had around 100 to 150 total cases at the time.
